This was shared yesterday, I’ve not seen it before, highlighting the importance of empowering young girls with positive messaging.?It's so well done, I am so aware of the impact of early messages on women's aspirations and choices, as a counsellor, as a Mum thanks to adoption and former foster carer. It very much reinforced how many women I've worked with who've had big dreams and the crucial role of early messaging in shaping those dreams. (Fertility treatment rarely featured and often came as a shock) I hope we can really find a way to increase the effectiveness of conversation around fertility empowerment early on, stressing that it's absolutely fine to desire a family at a young age. It's also vital to be open about the challenges of fertility treatments like IVF, as well as the option of egg freezing, in a way that connects with girls, not just women. Life isn't always fair or easy, for women or men, but hopefully, we can find a way to communicate fertility-related information as clearly and engagingly as this video does…

As we conclude Cross Border Family Reunification Week, we want to underscore this key message: Every child has the right to grow up surrounded by love, support, within in their own culture and family, regardless of their location (assuming safety, of course). Equity in permanency recognizes the unique challenges faced by cross-border families and emphasizes the need for policies and practices that take the extra step to ensure that family and kinship placements are explored and carried out (in the best interest of the child) even when it means placing a child across a border. As more and more people support kinship care and family reintegration, please work with us to ensure that these practices also apply in the same way to cross border families!
