Petite Sirah, aka Durif, came to Israel in the 1970s. It was brought to Israel to provide color for cheap blends. The pioneer who taught us of the potential of Petite Sirah to make a quality Israeli expression was Asaf Paz of Vitkin Winery in the early 2000s. Now it has become one of the country's adopted varieties. The first to use Petite Sirah in quality wines as a component in a blend was Dr. Yair Margalit of Margalit Winery. He used to add 15% into his high quality Special Reserve. This is our Old Vine PS on the vine. Looking beautiful, right? Ripening and steadily getting itself ready for harvest. Asaf Paz
