Here we go again. Another Mo Season is coming up and I'm calling on you - to support my silly efforts. This year I'm aiming to raise $1500 with your support. This will bring your backing of my numerous efforts to well over $11,000 which is kinda unreal. The ask this year is super simple. Any donation gets you a vote on what 'look' I will receive on the 15th of Movember. Why the 15th? Because a day or 2 later, I head to Canberra to represent Movember, and what better way to wake up our nation's elected officials than by having an extremely loud and outrageous look. I don't just do this as I have to. I'm genuinely passionate about the work Movember does. In particular this year as Movember has announced $60 million worth of funding for indigenous run and led initiatives globally ($17M of that here in AU) in order to combat the disproportionate effect that poor mental health and wellbeing has on first nations communities. Secondly, the work is funding in the healthy relationships and masculinities space. Movember - with its unique connection to men across Australia has such an opportunity to play a role in reducing gender based violence. You only need to look at social media to see that there are a lot of negative/unhelpful masculinities perpetuated that prey on young people's vulnerabilities. This, amongst a myriad of other factors, is leading to truly shocking gender based violence outcomes in Australia. Movember After sporting a mustache for nearly a decade, the change may feel unfamiliar, but the impact is what matters most. Losing four friends to mental health battles has highlighted the crucial need for mental health support and the promotion of such a great cause. Movember goes beyond grooming; it's a chance for significant change. It serves as a vital reminder to unite, speak out, and prioritize mental well-being, especially in times of stability. This month, I aim to unite friends, family, colleagues, and the community. Together, we can raise funds and awareness, ensuring others do not suffer in silence. As we navigate the weeks ahead, here are some proactive steps that don't involve donations, that are just as strong if not a stronger sense of support: reconnect with a long-lost friend, stay active for that post-exercise endorphin rush, enjoy a meal out with loved ones, or simply visit family (I need to call my mum!). And one special tip, put yourself first - take that lunch break, don't work at the desk, get outside. ???? Growing a Mo for Movember ???? This November, I’m putting the razor down and growing a Mo to bring awareness to men’s mental health. My wife, however, is NOT thrilled. The way she sees it, the idea of me morphing into Tom Selleck’s long-lost cousin is… well, it’s her nightmare. Why Movember? Because the stats are f******* alarming: ???? Every minute of every day, a man dies by suicide somewhere in the world. ???? Here in Australia, 3 out of 4 suicides are men. ???? And for men under 45, suicide is the leading cause of death. It’s clear: men’s mental health is in crisis. Movember isn’t just about dodgy moustaches and fun memes—it’s about starting conversations, raising awareness, and funding real change. I just thought I would add a few pretty horrific figures around mens mental health within the construction industry that I certainly will be considering whilst out on my runs. - According to IGPP, 82% of UK builders experience mental health problems due to work-related issues after research with UK tradespeople. - According to Construction News, The annual construction death-by-suicide statistic is currently seven times higher than the losses in the Grenfell tragedy. - Construction workers are six times more likely to die from mental health than a dangerous fall. - Construction workers are nearly four times more likely to take their own lives than in other sectors. #movember #menshealth #mensmentalhealth

I believe it's essential to share why I feel so strongly about this cause and make this push each year. Mental health challenges are something many people experience at some point in life. For men, however, it can often be especially hard to express those struggles, making it challenging to seek help or even acknowledge what they’re going through. Nine years ago, I grew a moustache to support the Movember Foundation. My stubble and struggle eventually grew into something more beautiful: the formation of the 'Capital Gainz' team (moustache beauty subject to personal views). Together, we've grown a movement committed to practicing wellness, initiating conversations on mental health, and raising funds for Movember. The Capital Gainz team encourages participants during November to build/stop a habit by committing to doing/not doing at least one activity per day that supports mental health and wellbeing. Last year, over 85 people participated in the Capital Gainz 30 Day Challenge. We tracked various activities like running, walking, reading, writing, and socializing, among others.
