?? We have updated our peatland restoration monitoring strategy. The newly updated #PeatlandACTION monitoring strategy sets out guiding principles for all our restoration monitoring, from monitoring peatland function after restoration to measuring peatland wider benefits. This work embodies the collective commitment between all the #PeatlandACTION delivery partners to restore Scotland’s degraded peatlands through the #PeatlandACTION Fund for people and nature. Up to ￡11 million in water company fines and penalties will be reinvested back into the UK via the 'The Water Restoration Fund'. This fund will offer grants to support local groups, farmers and landowners and community-led schemes, bolstering their capacity and capabilities for on-the-ground projects to improve the water environment. This could include activities that improve biodiversity and community access to blue and green spaces in areas where water companies have been issued with fines or penalties. The fund will be open to a range of organisations in England, including farmers and landowners, eNGOs, Local Authorities, catchment partnerships, National Parks and National Landscapes. Remember, projects which are promoting biodiversity and improving water quality would greatly benefit from a comprehensive and contained composting system which does not leach output into the groundwater. Providing toilets for your visitors, volunteers and staff can be a wonderful way to articulate your vision and values right down to the very last detail. Berri Barmera Landcare used a $10,000 FRRR Strengthening Rural Communities - Prepare & Recover grant to support the delivery of their Environmental Connection project. ?? Berri, on the Murray River was severely impacted by flooding in 2022. The six community events funded through this project have helped to connect members of the flood-affected community with the positive environmental benefits of natural high-water events. The shallow aquifer can come back to play as a back up non potable source and when the water quality permits as a potable source too. Especially when lakes are being revived it is likely that it may recharge the local wells too and these can then supplement the water needs of the community breaking old caste barriers of well water use through pumping and a piped water network. The social hydrology of water and adaptive management frameworks are necessary in a climate change impacted world .

The Eldoret-Iten Water Fund (EIWF) has made significant strides two years into its implementation, focusing on conserving vital water resources, rehabilitating degraded forests and farmland, and fostering collaboration with local communities. However, the initiative has encountered challenges, including conflicts with the Sengwer Indigenous community, which have posed obstacles to its ongoing efforts. Short and long term support for small isolated systems at work here! Super important on many levels: ·???????We know that many small systems are not financially or operationally sustainable. One key solution is to consolidate the small system into a nearby regional authority.?A key challenge is who will bear the expenses of developing a consolidation analysis and plan.? ·???????These small systems, mostly serving manufactured homes for Spanish-speaking families who work on farms, are falling in part and put these hardy people at risk. ·???????Moonshot Missions is able through the #WaterTA program to provide support to prepare these systems for consolidation – evaluating engineering and governance issues. ·???????Moonshot Missions also seeks to implement immediate steps to help secure clean water until consolidation can occur.
