?? **Row House Marks a Decade of Success with Celebratory Month and Exciting Challenge** ?? This April, Row House is not just celebrating ten years since its inception in 2014 but also commemorating a decade of remarkable growth and community building. As highlighted by Yahoo Finance, the Row House brand has become synonymous with not just achieving personal health goals but fostering a strong sense of community among its members. The centerpiece of this celebration is the "Decade of Row House" 10-day challenge, set to kick off on April 18th and wrap up on April 27th. This challenge is more than just a testament to the endurance and spirit of the Row House community; it's an opportunity for members to push their limits, reflect on their growth, and perhaps even embark on a dream vacation. Indeed, 10 lucky participants who complete the 10-Day challenge will be randomly selected to win a cruise for two, courtesy of Princess Cruises, to a destination of their choosing anywhere in the world. It's a fitting reward for a community that's all about journeying together, whether it's on the rowing machine or across the globe. As Row House looks back on a decade of success, it's clear that its impact goes beyond the physical. It's about creating spaces where people come together, support each other, and achieve things they never thought possible. This challenge, and the month-long celebration it anchors, is a reflection of that ethos - a way to say thank you to the members who've made it all possible and to welcome new ones into the fold. Here's to Row House: celebrating ten years and looking forward to many more. Walking the beachside boardwalk this morning through town. Hundreds of joggers out. Maybe even thousands. The joggers seemed to be divided into two jogging neighborhoods. There were the ones wearing their specialized running kits like a second skin. Then there was everyone else, in their array of comfortable casual sports gear. Literally divided by a street junction. Interestingly, as I was walking along, I noticed that some of the specialist-gear joggers were wheezing loudly, like they ought to have been on bed rest. While there were plenty of casual gear joggers running along at a fair old clip. Clearly, they had self-selected into the wrong jogging neighborhoods. Do people self-select into the groups and neighborhoods they think they should identify with? Why isn’t everyone, regardless of shape, size or ability, commingling together in their jogging moments? Why do people do that self-selecting out when they clearly have so much more talent to offer? And how as leaders do we recognize the wheezers in their second skins from the self-doubters running themselves out of the park? Maybe a people dashboard would help? Hmm. An interesting idea. As leaders how do you we track and measure the real talent on our team versus hearing only the squeaky wheel? How do we measure and identify who is going to consistently deliver the goods, versus just producing when the limelight is on them? P.S. If you were defining KPIs for your people, what metrics would you track to really determine each person’s potential. Share your examples in the comments below. P.P.S. For those who know how much I enjoy walking, I’m happy to report that I covered 34.5km in the writing of this post. Now that’s what I call a ‘Walkabout’. (Photo for illustration only)

Official first run club... Ran! Yesterday I launched my first social run club and almost cancelled it. Storm Ashley was in the news and I thought the wind and rain would put everyone off. How wrong I was. The goal has always been to host a social run club, where there are no time or distance expectations, no previous running experience necessary and accessible and inclusive to all. A community, a place to release the brain gremlins and learn the physical and psychological benefits of running. In previous run clubs I've struggled with routes. They're normally verbal instructions, something I struggle to understand and I just end up hearing the Magic Roundabout theme tune playing in my head. So I had a printed map of the route ready with things to look out for along the way and clear turn around points for specific distances. One of the benefits is that we are by the sea, so in this instance I could see pretty far ahead/behind to keep an eye on runners. The route will change every month, but for me and this being the first event, it certainly helped calm any anxieties. I also made sure everyone knew this is not a competitive place, there are no expectations, and that by simply showing up is to be celebrated. Post run, we arrived back at Unit7 for complementary teas and coffees for all runners, which is why I love this place so much! The group had an opportunity to discuss what they wanted out of run club and we looked at different routes and ideas. As with most projects/campaigns/groups, personal feedback is important, ensuring everyone feels valued and in a safe environment. Yesterday definitely felt like a huge win. From a personal development perspective, pushing back imposter syndrome and hearing the positive feedback from others. Stigma in the fitness industry can interfere with engagement in activities, people can struggle with poor body image and anxiety causing many to remove themselves from certain environments. This issue only compounds existing health conditions, increasing the likelihood of individuals not returning and feeling trapped. Anyone qualified to work in the fitness industry has a responsibility to ensure environments are safe and empowering for everyone. No judgement, inclusive and make them want to continue bettering themselves.

Fort Wayne's first climbing gym JUST opened and we're already taking down the routes on the climbing walls. Here's why. 1. Variety and Challenge: Regularly resetting routes keeps the climbing experience fresh and engaging for members. If climbers only face the same problems repeatedly, it can lead to stagnation. 2. Skill Development: Routes vary in difficulty, style, and technique. By changing them, route setters can introduce climbers to new moves or skills they may not have encountered before. 3. Community Engagement: A regularly updated gym fosters a sense of community, as climbers come together to try new routes, exchange beta (tips), and celebrate successes. So every 2 weeks, we'll reset one of three sections of Summit City Climbing Co. Have you tried climbing at your local gym yet?

How do you measure successful placemaking? Several people sent me this image that was circulating on social media as I love both Daybreak and Brigham Young University, my alma mater. (Yes, also very pleased with the victory - offensive holding penalties should always be called - especially on 4th down at the end of a game!) I also love this picture on a professional level for the concept it teaches. As community developers, we create the physical infrastructure of a place, but it’s the social activation by people that make it great. A few of the many other examples I see in our Daybreak Community: - High school dance and family pictures on the beautiful shore of of our lake or out in the community - Kids walking and biking on their own to neighborhood schools, parks, pools, and the lake - Families out for a bike ride on our 50+ miles of paved and dirt biking trails, including the Spoke - our cycle course/pump track/jump course marvel - Paddle boarding on our incredible Water Course - Our LiveDAYBREAK activities and concert series I can’t wait for the opening of Downtown Daybreak next year. We are building a great physical place for Salt Lake Bees baseball, concerts, Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres, dining, the arts, ice skating, and more! But, it’s the people that will come activate it that will make it special. Successful placemaking is not just a beautiful physical development, but the social development from the people enjoying it and making it their own. If you want to be part of this amazing community, check out new homes for sale here: https://lnkd.in/g_e53EhJ. For retail or office space leasing, reach out. We have a few spaces in phase 1 remaining. Larry H. Miller Real Estate The Larry H. Miller Company

Exciting news for Strava! The company has been named a partner by The White House for its Challenge to End Hunger & Build Healthy Communities (the Challenge), which focuses on ending hunger and increasing healthy eating and physical activity by 2030. I am regular user of Strava, using the platform to as part of my bike training for triathlons. I recently passed 10,000 miles of "virtual riding" on Strava. All told, Strava has more 120 million athletes in more than 190 countries that are actively utilizing their digital platform. Many of my friends that use Strava are already active. I am interested to see how Strava and The Whitehouse will work together to get new people to adopt an active lifestyle to help their overall health and well-being. Obesity, poor health choices and food deprivation are very complex issues in the United States. It's a topic that bi-partisan efforts should be taken to help change the course. Let's hope this is a step in the right direction. #strava #whitehouse #hunger #activelifestyle #healthandwellness #healthcare #cycling #running # https://lnkd.in/enBt3NGj

As we navigate through life, finding activities that not only entertain us but also contribute to our overall health and wellness is crucial. One such activity that often gets overlooked for its health benefits is golf. Recent studies have shed light on the profound impact golf can have on our physical and mental well-being. For instance, a study published in the?Journal of Physical Activity and Health?found that golfers experienced significant improvements in cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and strength compared to those who did not engage in regular physical activity. This is particularly noteworthy given the low-impact nature of golf, which makes it accessible to individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Moreover, the mental health benefits of golf cannot be overstated. The?American Journal of Golf Psychology?reported that golfers had lower stress levels and higher self-esteem compared to non-golfers. The strategic and social aspects of the game provide a unique form of stress relief and community engagement that is hard to find elsewhere. But what about the numbers? Let's dive into some fascinating stats: Cardiovascular Fitness: Golfers can burn up to 1,500 calories per round, depending on the length of the course and the golfer's pace. This is equivalent to running 10 miles! Mental Health: Regular golfers are 25% less likely to suffer from depression and anxiety compared to non-golfers. The game's calming effects and focus on strategy can significantly reduce stress levels. Social Impact: Golf clubs often serve as hubs for community engagement, with members forming strong bonds over shared interests and experiences. This social aspect is a key component of overall wellness. In conclusion, golf is more than just a sport; it's a lifestyle choice that promotes health and wellness in unique and rewarding ways. Consider adding golf to your routine. You might just discover a new passion and a healthier you in the process. www.GreensGuild.com #Golf #HealthAndWellness #Community #Veteran #PhysicalActivity #MentalHealth #GreensGuild #PGA #GrowTheGame #Anxiety
