EVs are not a fad - even in America. I think US is reaching another inflection point on the EV adoption cycle. It will surge and plateau, surge and plateau. The market for EVs and used EVs will mature. They may not replace ICE totally - however, more charging points means more strain on the power grid. Right now the EVs are free riding on existing grid infrastructure - but without further investment in the grid and green powergen - we are going to see brownouts in the US.

This week, our Fleet Director - Tim Bailey and Chief Strategy Officer - Katie Tasker-Wood, attended the BVRLA parliamentary reception at the Houses of Parliament to launch the “#happyEVafter” campaign. ZIGUP are supporting the cause to highlight the significant challenges that the decarbonisation transition is facing and the urgent need to understand and face into the hurdles and blockages ahead, along with socialising the complexities that are driving behaviour detrimental to the ZEV Mandate’s purpose. Our industry recognises and understands the need to reduce greenhouse gases and as a business, ZIGUP is at the forefront of guiding the transition through our extensive expertise, broad EV portfolio and charging infrastructure installation capabilities. But alongside our peers, we are asking for equal measures of incentives and support to work alongside the ZEV Mandate, not only in new vehicles but for used as well, supported by a fit-for-purpose charging infrastructure. We’re proud to be part of the decarbonisation debate and delighted to have the support of Lola McEvoy, MP for Darlington (where we have our HQ), who joined the discussion about the challenges and possible solutions.

We can implement an equitable transition to electrified shared transportation, if electric shared mobility programs are planned and executed with equity in mind from the beginning of program design. Our new report shares a few lessons learned based on California case studies and interviews.

CLEE’s new EV Equity Initiative report, Electric Shared Mobility: California Lessons Learned for Equity in Program Design, presents an overview of lessons learned from six EV carshare and mobility hub programs in California. Shared mobility programs, including EV carshare initiatives, are one tool local governments can deploy to advance equitable access to low-carbon, flexible transportation options, and to meet their zero-emission transportation and climate goals. The report includes case studies on shared mobility programs such as BlueLA, Green Raiteros, and Míocar, among others. Based on expert interviews and analysis of these case studies, the report also shares important lessons from these programs that will help ensure that new and expanded shared mobility programs are both equitable and effective. The German state of Schleswig-Holstein says it will pioneer a 6km stretch of electronic highway or eHighway test projects: overhead catenary wires, where electric trucks with pantographs can pull power directly from the grid.
