Interesting news this morning about PepsiCo UK expanding its use of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions The Manufacturer reports that "this is the latest in a series of green initiatives announced by PepsiCo over the past two years to expand the use of sustainable HVO fuel across the business" However, didn't McDonald's UK achieve a similar milestone almost 20 years ago? What took so long? PepsiCo's use of HVO is expected to save 13,000 tonnes of GHG emissions annually, demonstrating the massive low-hanging fruit still left unpicked in our #supplychains This underscores the critical importance of #collaboration and horizontal #innovation in driving #sustainability forward Sharing #bestpractice, leveraging existing technologies and fostering industry partnerships can accelerate progress and achieve significant environmental benefits more swiftly

Today, the Tasmanian Government has announced a major milestone in Australia’s recycling capabilities. TasRecycle has been appointed as scheme co-ordinator for the Tasmanian container refund scheme, anticipated to arrive mid-2025. We are a proud partner in TasRecycle, a not-for-profit entity comprising Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Asahi Beverages and Lion. CCEP acts as a scheme operator and / or co-ordinator in every state and territory where a container refund scheme is operational, and with the introduction of the Tasmanian scheme, Australia will have national coverage. This means that no matter where you reside in Australia, you will be able to recycle eligible containers through a container refund scheme, giving them the best possible chance of being recycled into a new container. Orlando Rodriguez, Managing Director, CCEP Australia said: “Together with our partners, we look forward to working closely with the Tasmanian Government to ensure the Scheme is a success, and to give Tasmanians the opportunity to benefit environmentally, financially and socially from Australia’s newest container refund scheme.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gCdjWNRg #CCEPAustralia #TasRecycle #ThisIsForward

???? #DepositReturnScheme news! Today, 1 February, Ireland kicks off its new deposit return scheme (DRS) for recycling drink containers. ?? TOMRA Collection Ireland was established in January 2023 and is today 28 people, who can advise retailers on DRS requirements and provide the most suitable reverse vending machines based on store needs. Ireland is Europe's 16th country to launch a DRS. ?? The DRS covers all drinks (except dairy) in cans and PET bottles, with consumers paying a €0.15 deposit for eligible containers 0.15-0.5 liters in size, and €0.25 for those over 0.5-3 liters. The deposit is refunded when they return the drink container to any retailer that sells beverages. The circular economy initiative seeks to boost recycling rates and build a closed-loop system, plus meet targets from the European Union’s Single-Use Plastics Directive to drive recycled content and separately collect 90% of plastic drink containers for recycling by 2029. #recycling #ReverseVending #RetailTechnology

?? Well done to Ireland who yesterday launched its #depositreturnscheme , a promising step towards a more #sustainable future. The initiative encourages people to return empty beverage containers for a refundable deposit, targeting plastic pollution and promoting recycling. Hopefully this move will serve as an inspiration for neighbouring #Scotland and the wider UK, both grappling with environmental challenges. ?? Could Ireland's success catalyse a chain reaction, motivating other nations to adopt deposit return systems? ?? A collective effort in the UK would not only benefit the environment but also encourage responsible consumer behaviour. ?? Scottish Grocer will have dedicated Sustainability coverage in the March issue & we'd love to hear from brands who serve Scotland's Supermarket, Discounter, Convenience, and Wholesale sectors on their contribution so far towards creating a positive environmental impact. ? #ArdentSharres Waste doesn’t have to end in a landfill — it can fuel a sustainable future. We at Ardent Communications (https://ardent.com.ph) support and salute Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines, Inc. (CCBPI) for all the efforts they are undertaking to help strengthen local waste management and recycling in the country. In one with this, CCBPI recently partnered with the Municipality of San Juan, Batangas, to push forward its flagship clear PET bottle collection initiative, “Tapon to Ipon: Basta Klaro, Panalo!” This collaboration reinforces CCBPI’s commitment to empowering local communities and supporting sustainability efforts with local government units. As part of this partnership, a baling machine was officially handed over to San Juan, marking a crucial step in improving the area's waste management and recycling systems. This initiative ensures that all collected clear PET plastic bottles, regardless of brand, will be processed at PETValue Philippines — turning waste into fully recyclable, food-grade rPET bottles. Check out this post for more information on how you can support Coca-Cola's clear PET bottles recycling initiative: https://lnkd.in/gx6_83rT. Through this endeavour, CCBPI continues to foster positive change and build cleaner, greener communities nationwide. #Sustainability #WasteManagement #PETRecycling #CleanerCommunities #CocaCola #TaponToIpon #ArdentComm #TopPRAgency
