There are a limited number of reputable and ethical leaders in our public service, which must be acknowledged. However, leadership is a critical factor in addressing unethical conduct and corruption within the sector. To claim that issues such as corruption and unethical behavior are not always linked to leadership reflects a lack of accountability. This perspective undermines the importance of merit-based appointments and effective leadership. The public service cannot improve without leadership accountability. The absence of responsibility at the leadership level perpetuates corruption and inefficiency, preventing meaningful reform.
