We’re proud to announce City & County of Swansea has directly appointed Coreus to be the multi-disciplinary project team lead to deliver the transformative Lower Swansea Valley programme at the Hafod Copperworks. Funded by the UK Government's Levelling Up Fund, this project will continue Swansea Council's plans to reinvigorate Swansea’s industrial heritage, restoring iconic sites of the Hafod Laboratory and historic Vivian & Musgrave Engine Houses & V&S No.1 locomotive shed, to honour the city's rich industrial legacy. This initiative marks an exciting new chapter for Swansea’s story, working with Swansea Council and other key stakeholders such as Cadw, we’re eager to bring this vibrant history back to life for future generations. What would you do if you had the chance to transform one of Hong Kong’s 48 Strategic Cavern Areas to free up precious land space? Doug Ho and Matthew Fong from AECOM’s geotechnical team took on this challenge at the Young Professional Think Deep Program Workshop co-hosted by HKIE Geotechnical Division, ISOCARP - International Society of City and Regional Planners and ITACUS - the ITA Committee on Underground Space. ? With the theme “Hong Kong Rocks – Deep Planning for Strategic Cavern Development,” the program brought together engineers, planners and architects from Hong Kong and abroad to collaborate on a capstone project — design an innovative cavern development plan for Mount Davis in the western part of Hong Kong Island.? ? Doug’s team envisioned a Sports Hub and Rehabilitation Centre that seamlessly integrates with future district and regional developments, addressing the community's needs for more open spaces, leisure areas, and parking. Matthew and his teammates crafted an innovative fire safety strategy for their Cultural Centre and Transport Hub, featuring a safe area with a fire suppression system and a multi-directional downward evacuation route with fast-speed lifts for occupants. ? These people-focused ideas and workable schemes for cavern development won Doug and his team the championship award, while Matthew’s team bagged the 1st runner up award. ? Wise words from Rebecca Thompson and those qualifications must include professionals with Conservation Accreditation/ certification plus a qualification in retrofit of historic buildings such as the Level 3 Award (see link below). I would also add that working to "Standards" such as #BS7913 and BS EN 16883, the European standard for retrofitting historic buildings, is also essential and things that clients should require https://lnkd.in/e9mVZiWS
