The Arts Council England just launched a very exciting pilot repayable grant scheme to boost large-scale theatre and dance tours across the UK. This innovative model could be transformative, creating a much-needed, sustainable framework for arts funding. The initiative strengthens the arts' reach and opens doors for more communities to experience world-class performances, bridging cultural access gaps. This approach could have a hugely positive impact on Australia, a nation inherently structured as a touring market. In a market where producers are battling increasing insurance, salaries, travel, freight and security costs an initiative like this would help producers and promoters keep ticket prices accessible for all audiences. A similar model here could expand opportunities across smaller metropolitan areas and regional communities, enabling productions to reach and develop audiences in more markets.
