After an extensive selection process, firms Arup US and Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU)?have been selected to deliver six new better-looking, more cost-efficient designs for scaffolding/construction sheds and pedestrian safety equipment. The redesigns will include four options for sidewalk-level sheds and two options for non-sidewalk-level pedestrian safety equipment, such as mesh fiber wraps or netting. Those six designs will be publicly released by the city to give every contractor the ability to build and use them, further driving down costs through competition. Plan Voisin was a proposal put forward by Le Corbusier, a pioneering modernist architect, in 1925. It was a bold urban plan designed to transform central Paris into a grid of skyscrapers and highways. Le Corbusier envisioned demolishing the historic city center and replacing it with rows of identical high-rise buildings surrounded by parks and transportation infrastructure. Le Corbusier exerted a strong influence on the urban planning concepts of the 1960s and 1970s, but was also rejected as a model of inhumane, schematic grid architecture.
