The hustle can sometimes have us forget that we aren't just fundraising to close the gap, to build the reserve, to expand on benefits offerings. We work here and we want to be just as well as we hope to get our clients. We deserve joy and stability. ?? Beyond that, our fiscal solvency ensures the often marginalized and unheard BIPOC educators and leaders we serve, have an organization that represents them. Understands them. Heals alongside them. ?? It's not "we have to" anymore with development work. It's "we get to and we know how to do it authentically." That matters. The Red Dress serves as a powerful symbol, giving voice to those who have been silenced. While this day shouldn't have to exist, the reality is stark: Indigenous women are 5x more likely to be murdered than non-Indigenous women. Yes it is Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Red Dress Day. Yes is is important to remember those who are missing! More importantly, how do we prevent Metis and First Nations Women and Girls from being abused, beaten, sexually assaulted, living in poverty, and going missing? 56% of Indigenous women have suffered physical assault, and 46% have experienced sexual assault. By comparison, about one-third of non-Indigenous women have suffered these assaults in their lifetimes. https://lnkd.in/gnHpK2Gt.
