This Halloween, we're asking organisations to help us spread a vital message to parents and caregivers: choose costumes from trusted sources that meet UK safety standards. Speaking on the topic, RoSPA's Head of Policy and Press Adrian Simpson said: "Always purchase costumes from reputable retailers and check for the UKCA or CE mark to ensure they comply with UK safety regulations. This is important as it shows that the product has been tested to meet UK safety standards, and indicates that the costume has passed essential safety tests, including those for flammability." 3 SIMPLE Halloween Safety Tips! ?? ?? NO EATING WITHOUT INSPECTING. Ensure your kids know not to eat the candy they get until you’ve taken a good look at each piece at home. If the wrapper on a candy is opened or damaged, it goes in the garbage can. ?? PRACTICE STREET SAFETY. Stick to one side of the street rather than going back and forth. Stay strictly on the sidewalk (no going into the street), or, if there is no sidewalk, ensure all pedestrians are walking on the side facing oncoming traffic. ?? BE SMART WITH THE COSTUMES. Costumes should ideally be light-coloured for visibility, or have reflective strips attached. Choose flame resistant costumes, avoid tripping and falling by having the right size of costume, and ensure enough layers are being worn (and jackets are brought) to avoid getting cold! What are you or your kids dressing up as for Halloween? Let us know in the comments!
