MOZART'S SYMPHONY 40 & 41: TRUE GREATNESS IS UNSTOPPABLE Nearly three years after Mozart's passing, his wife Constanze Mozart unearthed the manuscripts for Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, known as "The Great G Minor," and Symphony No. 41, also called "Jupiter," tucked away in a corner drawer; no other copies—just these single, handwritten manuscripts. Symphony No. 40 has become so universally recognized that even more than two centuries later, virtually anyone you meet on the street could hum its tune, no problem. To this day, the world's leading orchestras include these masterpieces in their annual repertoire, without fail. Had these compositions remained hidden, the cultural landscape we know today might have been markedly different. This story conveys two vital insights: 1) Never judge based on mere appearances or hearsay. Life is replete with surprising discoveries. 2) True greatness is unstoppable; it invariably finds its way into the world, overcoming any barrier. CULTURE LEADS > TECH FOLLOWS Happy 4/20!

200 years ago today, on 7 May 1824 in Vienna, Ludwig van Beethoven conducted the premiere of his 9th Symphony. It was therefore fitting today that we ended a two day workshop in #T?llberg by listening and watching a recording of a glorious performance at the Royal Albert Hall from the BBC Proms in 2012, with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and Daniel Barenboim. The early 1820s were a time of great upheavals and shifts, just like the 2020s. Here are some questions for us to reflect on now: ?? Which of today’s artistic creations will or should be celebrated in May 2224? ?? Of all the ideas, ideals and solutions that we hold dear today, which should we absolutely carry with us into the future… ??? …and which should we leave behind or throw away? ?? And of course, what will the world - and the planet - look like in 200 years?

SYMPHONY NO. 1 My first full symphony, in four movements, composed from 2022-2024. The second movement is the only movement that is subtitled (as "Heubad"), and it is for divided strings. The rest of the symphony is for full orchestra, although percussion parts (aside from timpani) were deliberately not included in the work. The first movement is inspired by a number of things, with the central climax meant to represent the motion of the Zweih?nder. The third movement is a scherzo, and the final movement provides closure on some of the thematic motions throughout. There was a work also known as a "Symphony" composed for wind ensemble; this has been changed to a sinfonietta, as it in its entirety was smaller in formal scope. I plan to eventually make a score video so that you are welcome to follow along with the music. https://lnkd.in/eCVCRFhw

Beethoven's Symphony No. 9: 'Dedicated to all Mankind’: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony — according to Frederick Stock, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra‘s second music director, in Talks About Beethoven’s Symphonies — is “dedicated to all Mankind. Embracing all phases of human emotion, monumental in scope and outline, colossal in its intellectual grasp and emotional eloquence, the Ninth stands today as the greatest of all symphonies.” Stock continues: “The Ninth is unquestionably the greatest of all symphonies not only because it is the final résumé of all of Beethoven’s achievements, colossal as they are even without the Ninth, but also because it voices the message of one who had risen beyond himself, beyond the world and the time in which he lived. The Ninth is Beethoven, the psychic and spiritual significance of his life. “In the first movement we find the bitter struggle he waged against life’s adversities, his failing health, his deafness, his loneliness. The Scherzo depicts the quest for worldly joy; the third movement, melancholy reflection, longing — resignation. The last movement, the ‘Ode to Joy,’ is dedicated to all Mankind.” “There’s something astonishing about a deaf composer choosing to open a symphony with music that reveals, like no other music before it, the very essence of sound emerging from silence,” writes CSOA scholar-in-residence and program annotator Phillip Huscher. “The famous pianissimo opening — sixteen measures with no secure sense of key or rhythm — does not so much depict the journey from darkness to light, or from chaos to order, as the birth of sound itself or the creation of a musical idea. It is as if the challenges of Beethoven’s daily existence — the struggle to compose music, his difficulty in communicating, the frustration of remembering what it was like to hear — have been made real in a single page of music.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eqNyFwYU. ???? Today, we celebrate the birthday of the legendary composer Johannes Brahms! Brahms' music has a timeless quality that continues to inspire and move audiences around the world. Did you know that it took Brahms 21 years to finish composing his first symphony and finally have it performed when he was 43 years old? He was so caught up in trying to live up to the ideal image that his friend Schumann spread back in his early 20s as a compliment, saying he was the next greatest German composer after Beethoven. This so-called compliment turned into a curse, filling him with a fear that he was not good enough and would never live up to society’s expectations. Since “being in therapy" wasn’t such a trend back then, this little story held him back for 20 years from composing and releasing any symphonies that would put him in direct competition with Beethoven. Once he was able and willing to let go of this story, his spirit was healed, and his best compositions came to life. Living in fear and self-doubt is not living at all. In a world where the pressure to conform to societal standards and the fear of not meeting expectations can hold us back from pursuing our dreams and living the best life, Brahms' journey serves as a powerful reminder that letting go of limiting beliefs and fears can lead to our greatest achievements. Let's honor his legacy by embracing our fears, letting go of unrealistic ideals, and living authentically. ???? https://lnkd.in/gjMX_iDg #Brahms #AuthenticLivinging #HealingPowerOfMusic #TMCOrchstra Eva Artistic Management
