For those who know me, you know that HOSPICE will always have a special place in my heart. As we observe National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, I couldn't let this time pass without sharing something close to me. ? CHOICE MATTERS. (Read that again.) ? Over the years, I’ve often heard colleagues, physicians, social workers, and referral sources say, “We let the patient choose.” I wholeheartedly agree. But here's the critical point: Don’t take away your patient’s ability to choose by avoiding the hard conversation. If you choose to avoid the tough talk, you’re making the choice for them. Patient choice starts with education. It’s our job to have those difficult conversations, to share the full picture, and to give patients the knowledge they need to make decisions aligned with their values and preferences. Time and time again, the most common thing I hear from families I’ve had the privilege to serve is, “We only wish someone would have told us about hospice sooner.” So, let’s take the leap. Let’s be the ones who step in, have the tough conversation, and offer the option of hospice care. Let’s give our patients and their families the chance to make an informed choice. Talk about hospice. Be the hero in their journey. #HospiceCare #PatientChoice #PalliativeCare #HealthcareProfessionals #EndOfLifeCare #EducationMatters #NationalHospiceMonth Lindsey Ingle Natalie Skinner Joshua Bennett Denise Lalka Dawn Mullins Bryan Pottow, LNHAAlicia Patten Williams Brandii Niles Kristen Paro Metoda Posega ,RN Julie Couden Eileen Orel Heather E. 2 周100% right boss! This is the single biggest area that hospice as a community can continue to help families. My own family dealt with this and I’ve been in healthcare. Giving the families the information so they can get through the difficulties of understanding is paramount! Great Post ????????????
