Ok, so she didn't get the job which was for a position as a stunt driver I believe, but it brings to the front of mind the importance of a slick hiring process to ensure you are not compromising your employer brand. Hands up, those who drive? At what point did having a driver’s licence mean the difference between a person applying to a position , or skipping over it even if the job doesn’t involve driving? I do not drive due to a vision disability, so any employer regardless of the job they are hiring for , if they request a licence I will not apply. Whether or not a person can drive ,should have no bearing on that persons ability to get to work, , or their ability to perform the job they were hired for. Unless a position requires driving , a licence should not be in the list of hiring criteria. Employers that require this may be shutting the door on a large number of very qualified candidates.

Why are more job descriptions requiring a full driving licence and car for roles where driving isn’t essential? As someone unable to drive due to medical reasons, I’m frequently forced to answer “no” to the licence question, despite the fact that the positions I’m applying for don’t actually require driving. Unfortunately, this often leads to an automatic rejection before I even have the chance to explain my situation. This raises important questions: Why is this allowed? Why is a driving licence listed as a requirement when it has no bearing on the actual job? There are many valid reasons someone might not have a licence, and it seems unfair not to provide applicants an opportunity to explain. Has anyone else noticed this trend? Best Practice - Do not ask a candidate whether they have a personal vehicle to get to work. If driving is not an essential duty of the position, you risk venturing into disparate impact territory (unable to drive due to disability, etc.) Better to ask whether they have reliable transportation. What you really need to know is whether they can get there, not how they do it. https://lnkd.in/g_FGadC3

Sign On Bonuses 101: If you don't need to offer one to be competitive in your area, don't. This isn't going to be a dealbreaker for a strong candidate who resonates with your culture. Don't offer anything ridiculous like $10,000 - $15,000 in your ads. Most techs have been or know someone who has been burned by this dealer scam. They know they will never see this $ and it's total B.S. It will hurt your reputation. If you are negotiating with a tech one-on-one, you can offer anything you both agree to that sounds fair. If you are running an ad that lots of techs will see, $2K - $5K is the sweet spot. Pay out a portion when the box drops then the remainder over 30 / 60 / 90 days.
