Many of you don’t know this, but exactly four years ago, I quit my brokerage job, to open my own brokerage: Bang Bang Freight ??. When prospecting we went by BBF. We had a couple of shippers and even did $50k in revenue the first month in business with 15% margins with no TMS, just an excel sheet and a rate confirmation sheet I put together myself. Our phone number (833-HAUL-BBF) was one digit off of CH Robinson’s (833-HAUL-CHR). Before quitting my job at a brokerage, I never realized all the effort it took to be a successful brokerage. It’s a lot more difficult than it seems when you’re just an employee and requires a lot of cash in the bank; particularly in the beginning when you have to pay carriers 50% upfront and 50% at delivery because you have no credit score. After 6 months, my partner and I decided to close it down. There were a few reasons why, but mainly I just wasn’t excited about building a brokerage. I spent most of my days making freight memes and for whatever reason that took off. Running FreightCaviar, although also not easy, is a lot more enjoyable than building a brokerage. Here’s a look at the back of our shirts. In the front, we had our slogan written: “Moving Freight, Feeling Great.”

A few months into my new part-time job….. Recently I was selected as Director of Operations and Quality Control in the Diaper Division at Haynes Inc., I’ve gained insight which has helped me grow as a professional. He leads his team helping to expedite shipments, materials for the production floor, and many other tasks.
