A little late to post, but here we go …. There are moments in your career that make all the sacrifices worth it, this was one of those moments. Together with our partners, Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, I had the chance to be a part of our #Gatorade ‘Get Fit for School’ event this week to help champion academic and athletic success for students from @Boys & Girls Club of Miami Dade. ??I’m sure this will be a day these kids will never forget as the students had the chance to experience the Dolphins’ summer training camp at their brand-new practice facility – including a surprise from star quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa - and receive school supplies from @Walmart and gift cards to @Dicks Sporting Goods donated by PepsiCo's Adelante ERG to help them prepare for the upcoming school year.? BUT, there is also a leadership lesson in the video Tua had just come off the field from a very hot practice.?He was justifiably tired and I’m sure had a million things to do as he gets ready to deal with the pressures of the season.??But when the “lights” were on, he was everything these kids thought and expected him to be. I watched that video last week on a return flight from a meeting where I was expected to show up, although I had a ton of other things weighing me down ... so I asked myself … when I’m tired and busy, how am I showing up? How engaged am I??Is my team/customer getting the best out of me? The barometer shouldn’t be how great we are when the environment is in our favor; the barometer should be how we show up when things aren’t perfect, when we’re tired, busy and overwhelmed.?You never know how those moments will impact you and those around you.?#growth #leadership #everydayforward

Which companies do celebrate Easter? Earlier, I thought it was mostly traditional businesses in sectors like manufacturing. However, statistics show something entirely different: over 95% of our clients who order Easter gifts are actually from the IT industry. Usually, they don't emphasize religious aspects but rather leverage this holiday as an opportunity to provide their employees with gifts like food, coloring books, and more. My team met Snoop Dogg* a few weeks ago. *Well…kind of. At Holiday of Play, our client Learning Resources showcased its new kitchen and cooking toys. Given that the real Snoop loves food and cooking, the team brought a lookalike to shake up the activation. He was a hit – “Snoop” got people excited and drew attention to the toys. He also fooled some folks (some of my own team included). The more you think about the real Snoop — he’s a PR genius, constantly reinventing his image. The turnaround story of the century. He’s gone from controversial, gangster rapper to chef, businessman, and America’s grandpa right in front of our eyes. An idea I've become obsessed with: Starbucks' community engagement. They actively connect with local communities through various outreach programs. Here are 3 ways Starbucks does it: 1. Youth Leadership Programs: ? They support young people by providing leadership training and job opportunities. ? This helps build skills and offers a pathway to employment. ? Starbucks partners with local organizations to make this happen. 2. Community Stores: ? These stores are designed to meet the needs of the community. ? They often hire locally and support local causes. ? Each store reflects the culture and needs of its neighborhood. 3. Volunteer Initiatives: ? Employees are encouraged to volunteer in their communities. ? Starbucks offers paid time off for volunteering. ? This strengthens the bond between the company and the community. I'm feeling relief as this is the 1st Memorial Day weekend in 10 years that I'm not responsible for Kroger's patty supply. Thanksgiving is the big holiday for most Category Managers but my team's time to shine was Memorial Day & July 4th. Running a supply chain with only 18 days of shelf life limits inventory availability but we managed to thrive and grow sales on patties especially 10 for $10 for 10 straight years. The most memorable Memorial Day holiday was the first (only 3 months in role). Our shelf life was only 11 days at that time and we projected our demand would exceed capacity in our mid-west divisions. Sure enough, we needed double what we could make. I was working with our suppliers to triage orders for 4 straight days to maximize the production. We had 6 weeks until the July 4 holiday so we had to learn and adapt quickly. We projected orders further out, created an A/B schedule to limit changeovers, and used excess capacity to offset in other regions. I love working in perishables because you don't have time to wallow on mistakes. You have to react, learn, and adapt to be successful for the long term because the clock is always ticking. As a challenger brand we're firm believers in the power of product sampling. Last week, to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day, Cameron McKenzie-Wilde and Florence Allen were out spreading the word with free pints of Gosnells Hazy in pubs. It's a simple but effect activity - we're confident in the quality of our product, and our experience shows that when people get a taste, 8 out of 10 choose us again. It's labour intensive (and doesn't scale that easily) but 'liquid to lips' sampling significantly boosts the rate of sale in outlets. It's a testament to the effectiveness of letting the product speak for itself. I'm curious about other strategies that we could employ.
