???A new EPA report finds that 19.2 million households, or 1 in 7 people in the U.S., face unaffordable water bills. The U.S. would need to invest $8.8 billion a year for families to have permanent relief from high water costs. That’s why we need policies like the H2O UP Act to ensure every family has access to #SafeAffordableWater now and in the future. Together, we can solve this problem through water safety investments and low-income water bill assistance. The climate threat to water security is high for many Indo-Pacific countries. Almost all Pacific Island areas are at or close to sea level, which makes them very vulnerable to rising sea levels and natural disasters caused or exacerbated by climate change. The Pacific Water and Wastewater Association (PWWA) Annual Conference and Expo provides an opportunity for water industry representatives, stakeholders, and government representatives to get together and address water resilience for the region. With the theme of ‘Water Resilience in the Pasifika – navigating the currents of change for a climate resilient region’, this year’s event was held in the Cook Islands, with support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Australian Water Partnership (AWP). On Thursday, AWP General Manager Sarah Ransom joined a series of international panellists contributing to a session on ‘Development partner perspectives on pacific water resilience’, where she noted: "We are dedicated to achieving our shared aspirations and we will respect Pacific priorities at every step. Together we must build resilience to climate impacts to safeguard the liveability of our region." ? Concurrent to the Conference and Expo was the 8th Pacific Water Ministers Forum, bringing together Pacific Water and Wastewater Ministers and government representatives and development partners to discuss progress and critical water issues to address in pursuit of SDG6. As PWWA CEO Pitolau Lusia Sefo-Leau noted, “Our organisation recognises the importance of water not just as a resource, but as a fundamental human right. We are committed to taking bold steps, leveraging innovative technologies, and fostering partnerships that will help us achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 – ensuring clean water and sanitation for all.” Further details from the Ministers meeting are outlined by Mary Alalo: https://lnkd.in/gH2ecMqt #SDG6 #watersecurity #climate Dominic F Schwalger Samoa Water Authority | Neeta Pokhrel Asian Development Bank (ADB) | Pacific Community-SPC | Shona Fitzgerald The World Bank
Australian Water Partnership this morning, had the opportunity to join a panel discussion at the 15th Pacific Water and Wastewater Association Conference & share development partner perspective on building water resilience/water security in the face of climate change. The recognition and contribution of the relational aspect of resilience and the value of traditional knowledge that has sustained Pacific peoples for generations is such a key component of water security in the region. #waterresilience #AWPinthePacific

?? Water is fundamental to our existence, yet there is real concern about its scarcity. Demand for water is being driven by population growth, climate change and environmental demands. In the UK alone, the Environment Agency estimates that by 2050 we’ll need an extra five billion litres of water per day to meet these demands. So, collaborative and innovative thinking is urgently required if we are to create a resilient approach to water management. The latest edition of #AspectsofLand looks at how the rural sector can contribute to greater water security ? https://lnkd.in/eu-QTv6B

?? ??According to a United Nations Water statistic, more than 2 billion people in the world lack access to clean water. ?? This is a terribly high and dramatic figure, which the United Nations wants to address by following SDG 6.1.1. ?? We support United Nations in this effort, enabling companies to increase their water efficiency and powering large-scale access to clean and safe water. #SDG6 #WaterEfficiency #WaterConservation #WaterCredit

#RNC2024 starts today in Wisconsin, where communities are paying an ever-greater price to protect residents and infrastructure from #climate change. ?? Our recent study found the state faces at least $16.7 billion in climate costs through 2040. ?? Wisconsin voters agree that polluters should pay their fair share of climate costs so that taxpayers aren't left holding the entire bill. ?? A recent poll with @dataforprogress found 63% of WI voters would support suing oil and gas companies to make them pay. https://lnkd.in/eWXycrmx

?? The Year in Water, 2024 ?? As we reflect on the state of our planet in 2024, the global water crisis looms larger than ever. A compelling article from Circle of Blue sheds light on the urgent challenges and risks surrounding water this year. Here are some key takeaways: - Water is Climate Adaptation at the Core: Extreme weather events—catastrophic floods and prolonged droughts—are intensifying, leaving communities and ecosystems vulnerable. - Infrastructure Under Pressure: Financial strain on water utilities and water rationing in major cities highlight the consequences of outdated and insufficient water management systems. - Agricultural Impacts: In the US, agricultural runoff, particularly manure pollution, continues to degrade water quality, posing significant environmental and public health risks. - Conflict and Cooperation: Water-related tensions in war zones are escalating, underscoring the critical need for international collaboration to mitigate these crises. While governments are taking steps to address water infrastructure and policy, the article calls for a united global effort to tackle the mounting water challenges. At Water Asset Management, LLC, we play our part by investing in global public water equities and private water opportunities. ?? The Government has officially approved our Water Resource Management Plan (WRMP), which sets out our strategy to secure your water supply for the future. Climate change and population growth are already affecting the South East’s water supply reserves, so this plan is absolutely critical. By 2050, we forecast that we’ll need an extra billion litres of water every day to meet the shortfall. We’re taking steps to reduce leakage and use water more wisely, and are also proposing to invest in major new infrastructure to keep the taps flowing. The Government’s confidence in our plan means we can keep water flowing for you and future generations. Read the full announcement here https://lnkd.in/dCTjT-8D
