Whether it's addressing urgent community needs, supporting vulnerable populations, or tackling social issues that lack resources, voluntary organizations often step up where no one else can. They bring compassion, creativity, and local knowledge to the forefront, ensuring that critical services reach those who need them most. In doing so, they strengthen our communities and create more equitable societies. Nine of Australia’s fundraising and for-purpose leaders — including our own Lisa Allan, FFIA and GAICD — speak candidly about the challenges of tackling misconceptions in the sector, and advocating for funding the full costs of delivering social impact. ”The whole sector has defaulted to an admin ratio as an indicator of ‘good’ or ‘bad’ performance, but research shows it’s a poor measure. Underfunding overheads can actually reduce a nonprofit's effectiveness,” says Lisa in the report from Pay What it Takes. We must shift the conversation on overhead costs, which is trapping many for-purpose organisations in a starvation cycle and threatening their very survival. The directory aims to: ??Increase visibility of African fiscal hosts among local and international audiences. ??Generate knowledge on trends and characteristics of African fiscal hosting. ??Foster collaboration by enabling networking between fiscal hosts and organizations supporting African initiatives. This initiative encourages more African organizations to explore fiscal hosting, filling a critical gap in the philanthropic sector. CivSource South Africa ’s program aims to foster a sustainable philanthropy ecosystem by strengthening connections, building capacity, and supporting sustainable funding, allowing local resources to be harnessed for community development. The online directory is a resource that provides accessible, accurate information on fiscal hosts, improving transparency and helping funders, grassroots groups, and other stakeholders locate fiscal hosting services easily. By bridging gaps and fostering mission-aligned collaborations, the directory aids in developing a cohesive and impactful philanthropic network across Africa.
