The opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sport remain shockingly limited. This is part of a longer term project at Physio4You to work with other partners to create a variety of inclusive opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport and be physically active. Physiotherapists can take a lead role in this, and our 'beyond the clinic' mantra is an essential part in shifting our own treatment paradigm and viewing activity and sport as part of rehabilitation, not the outcome of it. #physio #neurophysio #traumaphysio #paedsphysio

One important questions I always ask an athlete during their recovery journey is, “What do you need to feel more confident?” ?? Having open and honest conversations is crucial, and this all stems from trust. ?? As therapists, we can provide objective measures, which, thanks to modern technology, has become easier than ever. ?? But it’s not just about the numbers. It’s about meeting the athlete where they are and truly understanding their fears or hesitations. ?? Rehab and tendon rehab should look like a workout. Meaning you can't get back to healthy with therabands and pink dumbbells. It's my number one pet peeve after living and rehabbing through so many injuries. Return to play and return to pain free means you need to handle real loads. No 3x10 body weight exercises and go ice. that's not good enough. Sprinting you'll deal with 4-8x body weight forces on one foot! Are you prepared to handle that in a fraction of a second? Is your body prepared for that? If not it's a matter of time until you get hurt again. Rehab with the same seriousness, intention, and intensity you would a lifting or speed session.

The #Olympics often brings forward more interest in particular sports, whether swimming, track & field, or boxing. If you're wondering what a partnership with the NHS looks like, look no further. Those that know me well, know the excitement I shared back in 2019 when my team and I delivered upon this new partnership with the NHS. The River Bourne Club is a Private Health and Fitness Club based in Chertsey, Surrey, that formed part of our portfolio of clubs & studios. Since purchasing the club back in 2013, we'd been working on initiatives that tackled preventable illnesses, pre-hab, recovery and programmes that enabled the community to be more resilient, wrapping our ideas around the physical & mental health strategies, so that we could be relied upon by the NHS and be seen as an extension to Health Care. It's a joyous moment for me to see how Matthew Russell (General Manager) and his awesome club team, have continued to cover meaningful ground, driven by a united goal , 'To address the State of the Health & Wellbeing of the UK', and to showcase that their workforce are skilled and equipped to assist the Health Care with sustainable wellbeing, in conjunction with the amazing, forward thinking, MSK team at Ashford & St Peter's Hospital, who were motivated to take a good grip of the root cause. Anything in life is possible, and whilst these partnerships take time to nurture, I can honestly say that the outcome(s) are simply astonishing, in particular knowing that you've played a part in helping fewer people live with long-term conditions, improved life-spans, quality of life, life satisfaction or even prevented avoidable deaths.
