The labor market rebounded slightly in August according to the latest data from the?Department of Labor, but #talentacquisition and #retention remains a challenge in this slowing hiring market. The tight labor market is making it more difficult for employers to fill skills gaps, a challenge that is being accelerated by rapidly changing skill needs. This article ?? is a good reminder ?? that employers must not only invest in providing the #training that their #workforce of the future will need, but they must consider the impact #upskilling and #reskilling will have on skill acquisition and #talentretention. ?? The labor market is slowing, so companies are focusing more on retaining and developing their existing talent. With job openings at a low and hiring challenges persisting, businesses are turning to upskilling and reskilling initiatives to close the skills gap. Rapid technological advancements are accelerating the need for new competencies, especially in fields like AI and automation. While I don't believe companies should wait until there's an acquisition crisis to invest in upskilling, there's no doubt that the ones who are finally doing so are giving themselves a major competitive advantage. I don't foresee the desire for consistent upskilling going away either. LinkedIn’s Workplace Learning Report even confirmed that "...Gen Z workers are more likely to value learning for career progress than older generations," meaning that employee development will have to be a priority for any company looking to attract and retain the talent needed to succeed. #TalentRetention #TalentAcquisition #EmployeeRetention #EmployeeAcquisition #Upskilling

The rate at which the modern workforce is evolving is hard to keep up with. But it’s especially hard for academia when colleges and universities can’t necessarily build a brand new course that highlights the skills, both hard and soft, that are needed in todays transforming workplace. That is leaving a disconnect between the skills of graduates entering the workforce and what employers expect of them. The domino effect? Employers are having to inject their onboarding plans with a lot more in-depth training, opportunities for #upskilling or #reskilling – and adjusted expectations. In this piece by Cloey Callahan, we speak to Rajesh Namboothiry of Manpower, James Uffindell of Bright Network, Lupe Colangelo of General Assembly, and Jenny Maxwell of Grammarly.
