A lot of people were disappointed by the Tyson vs Paul fight. Watching it, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sadness—not just for the fight itself, but for what it represented. Sure, Tyson walked away with a reported $20 million, and I’m sure he’ll get over it. But for those of us who grew up watching him in his prime, it felt like something else was lost.
For millions, there was this quiet hope that Tyson would step into the ring and somehow, for a moment, be that Tyson again—the unstoppable force we remembered. Instead, what we saw was a man far past his prime, trying to recapture a spark that belonged to another time. It wasn’t just a disappointing match—it felt like watching a reflection of our own aging, our own inevitable losses.
For a moment, I felt something heavy: nostalgia, sadness, even a touch of despair. A reminder that the unstoppable energy of our youth has seasons, and those seasons pass.
But as I sat with those feelings, I reminded myself of something important: life is seasonal. Every stage has its own purpose, even if it looks different from what we imagined. Maybe it’s not about trying to relive what’s gone, but about embracing who we are now—and finding meaning in this season of life.
To those of us in our 40s or beyond: do you ever feel that same pang of nostalgia? How do you navigate the pull of what was, while finding joy in what is?
