What is wrong with you? ? What happened to you? ? This subtle but powerful change in language attempts to remove the stigma, shame, and judgment often associated with mental health struggles. Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey highlight this transformative approach in their insightful book, "What Happened to You?: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing." Through a series of conversations, they explore the impact of childhood experiences on our emotional and psychological well-being. Drawing from their own experiences and expertise, they offer invaluable insights into how trauma shapes our lives and how we can cultivate resilience and healing. The book also simplistically explains how traumatic experiences can alter brain development and impact behaviour. By understanding the science behind trauma, we gain deeper insights into its effects and how we can support healing. The key learning from my "experience" with this book is how it offers a compassionate, contextual way of addressing mental health concerns, recognising that every story is unique in it's own right while highlighting the indispensable part of relational and community healing; how healing cannot happen in an isolated fashion. Also, absolutely love the perspective shift of what is "wrong" with you to what happened to YOU? De-pathologizing and more contexualizing ?? This perspective encourages us to look beyond symptoms and behaviours, recognising the underlying experiences that contribute to mental health challenges. It's a powerful reminder that everyone's journey is unique, and healing begins with understanding and connection. Would love to know about your experience with this brilliant book #MentalHealthAwareness #Empathy #TraumaInformedCare #Healing #PersonalGrowth #trauma #whathappenedtoyou #psychologybooks

Counselor Weekly- 01/16/25 ???????? ???????? ?? ???????? ???????????? ???????? ?????????????????? ???????? ???????????????? Here's an example of nonsense and jargon: "My therapeutic approach is grounded in a synergistic fusion of psychodynamic principles and somatic experiencing, allowing us to delve deep into your unconscious narratives while simultaneously attuning to your body’s innate wisdom. Through our collaborative alliance, we’ll navigate the labyrinth of your psyche, unearthing hidden schemas and reframing maladaptive cognitions." If you want a very small caseload with minimal growth, just write some stuff like this and you won't have to worry about being busy. But if you want to connect with clients that are excited to work with you, and vice versa, try sharing an authentic, humble version of the service you provide in words that that don't require a license in mental health to understand. ---- If interested in these topics and growing a private practice, ?????????????????? ???? ???? ???????????????????? ???? ???????????????? ?????? ???????? ???? ?????? ????????????????.

Had a thought-provoking discussion with the Mental Health Professionals at Docsy recently, about the real competitors for psychologists. While many might think of health coaches, traditional healers or astrologers as the primary competition, the truth is much deeper. The real challenge lies in the cultural perceptions and alternative healing practices that resonate with people on a personal level. Many individuals turn to these alternatives not just for treatment, but for emotional connection and understanding —something that can sometimes be lacking in conventional mental health settings. Traditional healers often provide a sense of community and familiarity, offering solutions that align with cultural beliefs. They create a space where patients feel understood, which is crucial for effective healing. This highlights an important reality for mental health professionals: it’s not just about the techniques or qualifications; it’s about 'building trust and rapport' with clients. As we navigate this landscape, it’s essential for Mental Health Professionals to recognize these dynamics and adapt by incorporating elements that foster connection, empathy, and cultural sensitivity into their practice. The goal should be to create an environment where individuals feel safe and supported in their mental health journey. Let’s continue to explore how we can bridge these gaps and ensure that quality mental health care is accessible and appealing to all! #MentalHealth #Psychology #HealthcareInnovation #CulturalCompetence #Docsy #psychologyrealcompetition

Happy New Year from Aisel Health ?? This year, mental health has been at the forefront of our shared challenges. ???? King Frederik X of Denmark captured this in his New Year’s speech with these important words:? ?? "Many young people lose their footing. Not for a moment, but for a long time. For some, to the point where they become ill. 'Why can’t I be like everyone else?' they might ask. There is rarely a simple answer. However, we know it helps to have someone to confide in and lean on." ????The royal focus is a powerful reminder of the importance of having someone to turn to and society's acknowledgement of mental health. But providing that support requires time and capacity—something many mental health professionals are critically short of today.? At Aisel Health, we’re addressing this gap. Through our #AI-driven tools, we’re giving psychiatrists the time to focus on what matters most: their patients.? ?? As we step into 2025, we’re committed to ensuring everyone has someone to lean on when it matters most. #MentalHealth #HappyNewYear #AI #DigitalHealth

? A Journey of Strength, Growth, and Triumph ? One year ago, I began working with a client battling severe depression and anxiety. It was a journey filled with vulnerability, challenges, and moments of deep reflection. But through her courage, resilience, and the scientific techniques we applied together at The Soul Square, she has grown beyond her own expectations. ?? Today, her message filled my heart with immense pride. Not only has she found clarity and strength in her emotional well-being, but she is also achieving her professional dreams! She has been allotted MD Anesthesia in her second round of counseling—a milestone she once thought impossible to reach. Her words, "Challenging my old self talk on a daily basis is uncomfortable but I am trying my best," reflect how transformative small, consistent steps can be in reclaiming one’s mental health. To anyone out there struggling silently: healing is possible. Growth might feel uncomfortable, but on the other side of discomfort lies clarity, peace, and success. This client's story is proof that you are stronger than you think. ?? Proud of her journey and success! Let’s celebrate her achievement and the power of mental health support. ?? #MentalHealthMatters #ClientSuccess #Psychology #TheSoulSquare #HealingJourney #MindsetTransformation #Wellbeing

Finding hope, healing, resilience, and joy through one's mental health journey -? I believe many people, including myself, can identify with the following statements made by students from Stanford University: ?? “ I let myself become obsessed with this idea of perfection, which gradually had me drifting away from things that brought me joy, all in the pursuit of productivity.?So now, I try to seek joy as often as I can ...” ?? “Healing began when I realized, ‘Wait, I can’t run away from this; I have to run toward it.?I have to confront my feelings to be able to heal them ... ’” ?? “Looking back, I wish I could tell myself two things - that I will accomplish my dreams, even if they seem far-fetched and that I will get better and I deserve to feel good...?I’ve come back stronger and better ... ” ?? “At times I’ve found myself battling the fast-paced perfectionist kind of culture that I think a lot of students feel here.?We are ambitious and we want to have an impact on the world. But slowing down is really important ... ” ?? “If I could go back and tell my younger self something... I would remind myself that you can’t see the forest from the trees and that it’s healthy to reflect on the past, but living in the past is not ... ” Learn how Stanford students have flourished through their mental health journeys. A great initiative by Stanford University presenting the stories of Stanford students who have courageously shared their experiences on their mental health journeys. https://lnkd.in/efmWiya7
