Higher Ground took a major step toward decarbonizing music at the 2024 Shelburne Museum summer concert series by partnering with NOMAD Power ? to replace diesel generators with battery systems to power the stage. Higher Ground made the change after seeing REVERB’s Music Decarbonization Project successes with Billie Eilish, Willie Nelson, and others! This not only reduced greenhouse gas pollution but also enhanced the concert experience for artists, their crews, and fans by cutting noise and fumes. Guster had the honor of being the first band to perform on the fully battery-powered stage ?? (their first battery-powered show!). Thanks to our partners' collaboration, this eco-friendly initiative is a big win for reducing the environmental footprint of live music. Thanks also to Overdrive Energy Solutions for their help! #Sustainability #GreenConcerts #REVERB #MusicDecarbonizationProject

Art and sustainability not only can coexist, but they can rise together, and Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres tour is the perfect example. ???? When I learned that the band decided to make their concerts 50% more sustainable, I was amazed by how they managed to unite music, the energy of their fans, and care for the planet in such a beautiful way. Coldplay, who started in London in 1996, has not only left a mark on music but is also leaving a deep imprint on the Earth. ??? I’m inspired by how they’ve naturally integrated sustainability into their performances. Imagine: stages powered by solar energy and biofuel, and even energy generated by the fans themselves, who pedal and dance to keep the show going. It’s as if the energy of the music and the audience fuse together to create something even greater! ??♂??? And that’s not all— for every ticket sold, they plant a tree, which I find to be such a symbolic and powerful gesture. It’s like each musical experience leaves a green footprint on the planet, something tangible and lasting. ?? I’m filled with admiration for how Coldplay has transformed the way we view concerts, showing us that art and sustainability can walk hand in hand and, in fact, rise together. It inspires me to think about how each of us can do something similar in our own work and projects, finding that connection between what we love and the planet. These kinds of initiatives remind me that when we follow our dreams consciously, with purpose, the impact can be much deeper than we ever imagined. ??? #LinkedIn #Coldplay #Sustainability #MusicWithPurpose #Inspiration #GreenInnovation #PlanetCare #SustainableConcerts #CircularEconomy #VittaUnNuevoEstiloDeVida

I’m deep in this topic right now. Producing sustainable events is a major focus for me and this article delivered the tech and supply chain facts I need!
The live events industry and the festival industry in particular, is amidst a sea change in how events are powered. As they explore viable alternatives like batteries, there are many emerging technologies and practices that can be adopted by TV and film productions to make on screen entertainment greener: https://lnkd.in/gw42m5Uz ?? #Lollapalooza #sustainableproduction #decarbonization #mobilepower #solarpower #Reverb

The scorching summer heat is a time to recharge batteries, bring in new perspectives and #leave #comfort #zones. The latter is essential for growth. This year, for the first time, I participated at the #Sziget music festival for the entire 6-day-duration. Why was it stepping out of my comfort zone? #1. The age group between 20-30 represent 90% of the festivalgoers and most people don’t attend events where their age group is considered fringe. #2. I went to the festival without knowing the artists. Obviously when I work, I have absolutely no time to keep up with the names and styles of bands. It was thus a perfect occasion to learn about Stormzy, Raye, Halsey, Aurora or Fred again and decide what I like to listen to. #3. Sziget is a big island in the middle of the Danube; crossing it multiple times a day to watch a show meant a 15-km-walk each day. My bet is that it’s one of the most enjoyable ways getting into shape at speed of light. #4. Getting the feel for GenZ was really interesting. My impression was that GenZ is a digitally expressive, face-to-face shy, respectful generation. I actually felt at ease surrounded by 450.000 of them during Sziget. #5. It was refreshing doing something so utterly different than the rest of the year. What did *you* do for the first time this summer that took you out of your comfort zone? #summer2024 #SZIGET2024 #leave #comfort #zone

What is the impact of touring and how can the music industry decarbonize its footprint? Massive Attack show how super-low carbon practices can be delivered, provided if they are central from the inception of a tour. They took a road map developed at Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research to target energy, food, waste and travel, as well as to show that it doesn't compromise on the audience leaving a concert happy. Powered by renewable energy, using low energy LEDs and batteries on site, harvest on pre-existing festival infrastructure, provide incentives for audience travel to travel by train and shuttle, have only plant-based food on offer (by local suppliers!) and leave with zero waste. Massive Attack shows how forward thinking can really make a big difference - while playing some of the best music ever made. Safe from harm. That's the way to set standards in music as well as in sustainability. Check the story at https://lnkd.in/g5MK2594

The most important driver of emissions in the concert business is not the travel of the artists, but of the audience. But not putting on concerts cannot be the solution! So, what can we do? Positive impact and future-oriented outcomes are not currently measured and are not mentioned in climate reports. In this workshop held at Classical:NEXT 2024, led by Lea Brueckner, Asbj?rn Keiding and Beat Fehlmann, the Ludwigshafen impact model was used to make these ambitions visible and measurable and with the objective of collaboratively considering programmatic solutions. This helps make the industry part of the solution, while making a positive contribution to the environment, society and the economy. Collectively and creatively we can deliver sustainable concerts that have a positive impact on nature, society, economy and each concert-goer! "If you want to make a change, you have to start with one person and that’s yourself." - Asbj?rn Keiding #classicalnext #artmusic #sustainableconcerts
