Five tips for using a strengths-based approach in the classroom: 1 View students through a strengths-based lens when planning lessons When educators view students through a strengths-based lens, they elevate student learning by building on what they know, such as their personal foundations. And, when educators identify individual student strengths and provide support for what is not yet controlled, new strengths emerge 2 Elevate learning by building on what they know and enjoy Wherever our students are on their learning path, their processing systems contain multiple strengths and abilities, including the ability and readiness to learn 3 Identify strengths and scaffold (make adjustments for) vulnerabilities These activities are used to create a clear learning path for students, and are used with feedback meetings and when student considering response to interventions. 4 Consider how the students' strengths can support their learning Educators must practice how to analyze assessment data from a strengths-based lens to inform instruction, and then, know how to plan instruction based on these strengths. 5 Provide focused feedback on student progress and assessments Carefully analyze all assessment data to identify where the student has demonstrated success.
