Citizen assemblies (CAs) could enrich policymaking by unveiling public values and preferences for climate polices. Yet, the current paradigm guiding CAs is rationalistic and primarily fact orientated. This might under- exploit the potential of CAs to bring a unique contribution to climate policymaking. I propose a paradigm shift that creates explicit room for citizens’ values in CAs. Using concrete examples, I illustrate how every step of CAs could be transformed to elicit citizens’ values: from citizen selection, to setting the remit, facilitating the discussion, and shaping and institutionalising policy recommendations.?

Started with explaining the amount of emissions and carbon that are in the atmosphere and sinks of carbon. And explained the importance of Forest Management in sustainable climate finance. the course was more focused on REDD+ initiative of UNFCCC and related policy frameworks which is related to emission reduction. When doing this course what I recalled was the Payment for Environmental Services(PES) in my Natural Resource Management lecture. although this dives more deeper into how to implement a emission reduction policy on an international scale. $4.3 Billion for Climate Action After spending ten years focused mainly internationally in low and middle income countries, I've enjoyed learning more about all the work going on domestically to address the climate crisis and environmental justice, including making some small contributions to the EPA's Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Program. So it was particularly exciting to see in the newspaper this morning that EPA has selected 25 applications from states, municipalities, tribes, and terrotories to receive funds to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution and help frontline communities. Located in 30 states, selections include projects to decarbonize transportation, buildings, industry, agriculture, and waste/materials management. As a starting point for their proposals, applicants needed to use their Priority Climate Action Plans (PCAPs). It's interesting to look at those PCAPs as well as the CPRG awards (links to both below). $4.3 billion isn't as much as we need to solve this problem -- neither is the hundreds of billions in the Inflation Reduction Act -- but it's enough to make meaningful progress. https://lnkd.in/eNvTDPCK https://lnkd.in/ePfBuhvP #CPRG #climateaction #lulucf #afolu #climate #onepointfive
