The world of resume writing has evolved significantly, and it’s understandable that the days of a one-size-fits-all approach are long gone. ?? For those of us with extensive and varied experience, tailoring our resumes to highlight specific skills for each job application is a must. But I’m seeking your advice on something we’ve been struggling with... After our entire marketing department was laid off, my colleagues and I embarked on the task of updating our resumes. ?????? We’ve gone through several iterations, but we’re still unsure of what really works. Here’s a snapshot of our journey so far: — Eye-catching and creatively designed resumes—we wanted to stand out and be memorable. ?? — Simplified ATS-friendly resumes—this was a challenge for our creative minds, but we focused on ensuring they were machine-readable. — Even more simplified versions—we stripped them down further, using lots of bullet points and keeping it basic to appease the ATS systems. Despite all this effort, we’ve received conflicting feedback. Just last week, a colleague was told that her resume had "too many bullet points" and that it was "too plain" and should be designed to look more polished. So, here’s where I need your help: What’s the right approach? How do we balance getting noticed by both humans and ATS systems? ?
