???? Join Us in a Global Movement: 20 Years of Forests for Peace ???? 5 Feb 2024 As we celebrate two decades of planting trees for peace, inspired by environmental icons Jane Goodall and Wangari Maathai, we're not just reminiscing; we're pushing forward with a bold proposal to the United Nations. Our mission, rooted in the tireless efforts of these remarkable women, aims to officially recognize September 21 as a global tree planting day for peace. ????? "20 Years of Forests for Peace: Marking the Day in History" tells the story of our journey, the legacy we aspire to leave, and how each tree planted is a step towards a greener, more peaceful world. Inspired by Goodall's passion and Maathai's Nobel Peace Prize-winning work, we've seen firsthand the power of community and environmental stewardship in fostering global peace. ???? Read our story and join the movement: https://lnkd.in/d5VxKNHJ This is more than a call to read; it's a call to action. By supporting our proposal to the UN, you're helping to plant the seeds of peace and sustainability for future generations. Let's make history together. #PlantAndCareForPeace?

Indigenous Peoples' Day: Honoring Tradition, Community, and Healing ?? On this Indigenous Peoples' Day, we reflect on the resilience, wisdom, and contributions of Native communities while embracing opportunities to heal the land through nature-based solutions and traditional ecological knowledge. Over the past year, we've been working to reconnect with these traditions, ensuring they benefit the future generations to come. One of the highlights of our summer was the Trenton Lake Music Festival, where we celebrated culture, music, and community. Through a partnership with the INTERTRIBAL BUFFALO COUNCIL, we were able to give back in a meaningful way—distributing 1,200 pounds of buffalo to the local community. This initiative wasn't just about food; it was about honoring the sacred connection between land, animal, and people, something Indigenous knowledge deeply understands. At the same time, my father, Roland E. Marmon (Ph.D), has been hard at work updating his powerful book, 'The Last Card Played: History of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa and the Ten-Cent Treaty of 1892'. This work dives into the histories and futures of the Chippewa People (Metis), and he's looking to take it further. We’re speaking with producers to collaborate on transforming this important narrative into a docuseries, amplifying Indigenous voices and stories. As we look ahead, the opportunities to heal the land are immense. Nature-based solutions—rooted in traditional ecological knowledge—offer pathways to restore ecosystems, mitigate climate change, and ensure a sustainable future. Whether it's through restoring buffalo populations, rewilding lands, or promoting sustainable agricultural practices, Indigenous knowledge holds a key to unlocking a healthier relationship with our planet. Today serves as a reminder of the strength, resilience, and wisdom of Indigenous peoples—and the many ways we can learn from and support this ongoing legacy. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #BuffaloRestoration #HealingTheLand #NatureBasedSolutions #TrentonLakeMusicFestival #TheLastCardPlayed #TraditionalEcologicalKnowledge

Nature
ROP (Return on Potential) is my favorite acronym although I’m an MD, PhD, MBA, CFA & a bunch of other acronyms people think matters. 4x’ing ROP @ Harvard, MIT, & Stanford & Founder/CEO of a multibillion dollar VC firm.
Here are the facts: ?? The average person spends 4 hours and 37 minutes on their phone. ?? More than 50% of people spend LESS than 1 hour a day outside. ??♀? Yet our distance ancestors spent virtually all of their time outdoors… ??…and outdoors wasn’t paved roads with honking horns and polluting vehicles - it was nature in it’s purest form. ?? Is it high time that we reclaim our heritage, reconnect with our essence, and find our way back home? For more on reclaiming our full potential, check out: https://lnkd.in/eF4W8Z_i

The America the Beautiful for All Coalition reflects the diversity of America and centers the voices of people of color working to conserve 30% of lands, waters, and oceans by 2030. In 2024, this coalition will continue to motivate urgent action by the Biden Administration, Congress and other decision-makers in support of the coalition’s twin goals: 1) Conserving at least 30% of land, water, and ocean by 2030; and 2) Implementing a Justice40 metric for the America the Beautiful Initiative to ensure at least 40% of investments are made in communities of color and frontline communities that have historically seen little to no investment in conservation and equitable access to nature. https://zurl.co/fUfF

For countless generations, Indigenous communities have nurtured, protected, and lived in harmony with the earth, guided by traditions that teach respect, gratitude, and sustainability. The land is not seen as a resource to own but as a living, sacred part of life. As we reflect on this heritage, let’s embrace the lessons Indigenous peoples have carried through time: we all thrive when the land thrives. Consider how you can help support the land that supports you: ?? Plant species native to North America. ?? Lend a hand in a community garden. ?? Volunteer for local conservation projects. ?? Learn traditional foraging practices. ?? Support Indigenous farms and markets. Read more about honoring Native American Heritage Month ?? https://buff.ly/3Abb0CG
