Friend and colleague Prof. Nouri Najjar today has published the following piece of research, as part of the Net Zero Lab of the Ivey Centre for Building Sustainable Value: https://lnkd.in/g-vcWGjX A few key take aways from his work, based on Economics: 1) The Canadian Industrial sector, in the past 3 decades, has been moving towards #netzero , but at pace that is insufficient to achieve #2050 targets. To meet Net-Zero by 2050, the pace of decline in emission intensity needs to increase sevenfold. 2) In 3 decades, the sector has reduced #emissionintensity by 13%. This result is driven by two main mechanisms: the change in "composition" of the sector (with growing economic activity and market share by dirty industries, such as Cement manufacturing, steel, and petrochemicals) has increased emission intensity by 7% while the "technique effect" (driven by electrification, efficiency, and circularity efforts in some industries, such as aluminium, computer, and clothing manufacturing, among others) have decreased emission intensity by 20%. 3) Even if composition is changed aggressively in favour of industries with lower emission intensity or significant emission intensity improvements are achieved in all industries, the sector in unlikely to achieve Net Zero. HOWEVER, The analysis cannot reveal what would happen if both mechanisms would work synergistically (the "technique effect" and "composition effect" both drive major aggregate reductions in the sector emission intensity); this scenario seem the only one that can achieve climate goals. 4) Regardless of the type of #publicpolicy (carbon pricing, subsidy, or technology standards), the government can try to a) change the "composition" of the sector and b) boost the "technique effect" by altering what firms operate in each industry, affecting the relative size of surviving firms, and incentivizing firms to adopt cleaner processes. 5) It is expected that the Government will move in the direction suggested above, given the much needed change in pace of emission intensity reduction. Therefore, there are real opportunities for #earlymovers that adopt process improvements (electrification, renewables, process efficiencies, circularity) to gain substantial market share over other incumbents. Much work ahead of us...

Carbon Ag Solutions REstore C airseeder spec granule is derived from metropolitan waste resource streams. Annually Perth Western Australia produces over 1 million tonne of organic waste suitable for granulation. Carbon Ag Solutions has 6 years of data on granulated urban waste resources for food production in the Western Australian wheatbelt through grain production. The data is displayed in an electronic platform produced by AxisTech, the electronic plaform allows growers, industry representatives to investigate the data over 6 season, across different soil types, rainfall zones and crop types. Also in coming months a Carbon calculator will be included in the platform as products are applied to fields, this will be linked to an App also for growers. This is the largest data set ever undertaken on urban waste resources in Australia. Carbon Ag Solutions is now looking to expand into the east coast of Australia and our new location and facilities will be announced in the near future. Granulated urban waste resources for food production is the true circular economy. www. Have you heard about the new food waste regulations in Wales? This year new legalisation is coming in to force requiring businesses to segregate food waste so it can be recycled rather than adding our landfill sites. This will save a huge amount of potent methane entering our atmosphere ??. Wales will see the new rules coming in to force in April, while other parts of the UK are tipped to follow suit soon. You can read more about it here ?? https://loom.ly/LdI0we0. If you're wondering what to do with your food waste see how our composters could help https://loom.ly/ZrDYzK0.

The most important #sustainability choice we can make right now is to remove #fossilfuels from our energy supply. This can be a challenge when you’re stuck with a grid that you have no control over, but there’s still a lot that productions can do!??? ??Watch our #FlintForum:?"Virtual production as a sustainability tool," featuring experts with real-world experience about how sustainable virtual production is. #SustainableProduction #ZeroCarbonPower

For the first time in history, Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, will power football’s biggest game with 100% renewable, carbon-free energy. And NZero is the data and decarbonization platform behind them. Our case study documents how and in what ways this game is different from years past, the tremendous scope of emissions avoidance behind Allegiant’s award-winning waste diversion program and how the Raiders have seen their sustainability ambitions turn into history-making outcomes that can be measured year over year. I recently came across an interesting whitepaper from Ivey Centre for Building Sustainable Value on household food waste (Good to the last bite), which sheds light on the staggering levels of waste we generate and its far-reaching implications. While the enormity of the problem is often well-known (with billion of pounds of food wasted annually), it's often overlooked that a staggering 65% of this waste happens in our homes, restaurants, and grocery stores. This makes food waste a "me and you" issue rather than a problem at the farm or with food manufacturers. Read the work and reach out. We're deep in food waste at Power Sustainable Lios…we can't get enough of it!? #sustainablefood #foodwaste https://lnkd.in/gVhr3fwF

The Super Bowl is annually the biggest event in American sports as well as the most-watched broadcast of the year. Yesterday, for the first time in Super Bowl history, Las Vegas Allegiant Stadium, home of this 2024 game, was powered entirely by renewable energy, making an amazing step towards sustainability in sports. With its new installation developed by NV Energy, generating around 10 megawatts of energy, enough to power approximately 47,000 homes. New sustainable policies and measures were also implemented at the stadium, including an ETFE roof and food scrap recycling, reflecting a true commitment to environmental responsibility. #renewableenergy #superBowlLVIII #greenenergy #energytransition #NVEnergy #sustainability #cleanEnergy #Decarbonization #recycling
