As Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) 2024 takes off, YCC Family Crisis Center is deeply aligned with this year's theme: "Heal, Hold & Center." Domestic violence does not discriminate—it crosses all boundaries of race, age, gender, and socioeconomic status. This reality underscores the importance of a comprehensive approach that heals the deep wounds of violence, holds space for survivors to reclaim their power, and centers the voices and experiences of those most marginalized. At YCC, we witness daily the strength and resilience of survivors, especially those who navigate the intersecting challenges of anti-Blackness and other forms of systemic oppression. We are committed to embracing the many cultural ways that healing can take place, whether through community support, creative expression, or the re-establishment of safe and nurturing environments. Our mission to end domestic violence is inherently tied to the pursuit of social justice. We firmly believe that there is no true justice for survivors without addressing the racial and social inequalities that perpetuate violence and oppression. This DVAM, we encourage our community, partners, and allies to support our efforts in making a difference for survivors. By standing with us, you help ensure that every survivor is seen, heard, and supported, contributing to a future where healing and justice are within reach for all. We were in my hometown on this horrific day - 6 years ago. We had worshipped in this synagogue at bar mitzvahs. Any of us could have been there that day. Today in Pittsburgh, people of all faiths join together, through service and volunteering, to remember the eleven people who were senselessly murdered. We all stand in solidarity with the survivors, the families of those who were killed, and all those who have been impacted by this act of hate-motivated violence.

The recent stabbings in Southport are heart-breaking. The initial horrors of the attacks on young children while they enjoyed a dance class is bad enough. No child should ever be stabbed. No parents should be in mourning having left their child to do an enjoyable, safe activity. History shows that, time and time again, the inevitable backlash of people taking this kind of pain and suffering, and using it as a campaign for their own hateful motives is never far away. We have seen this in the riots that took place in Southport, and are indeed likely to continue to. These riots are fuelled by false information relating to the unnamed 17 year old held in custody over the stabbings. Racism is an instinctive, learned reaction for many who are angry, ignorant and disadvantaged by the wider systems in the UK. Harm, hurt and pain, when mishandled, breed more of the same. The harm from the initial attack has now spread to Muslim community in Southport through the damage to the mosque; ethnically diverse individuals and asylum seekers and refugees through the challenge on their right to exist in the UK. The riot's violence, fuelled by racist assumptions, mean that conversation has shifted from the bright, beautiful children who have had their lives taken from them, and has distracted from the vigil being held by their families, friends and community. As a society, we need to target the reasoning behind these extreme reactions to ensure that the focus is on the right thing - which, in this case, is on supporting the grieving families and young people who have been impacted by the stabbings. We cannot achieve this, without addressing the systemic discrimination within our society. Enough harm has been caused in the Southport community. Let us all work together to help them heal, grow and shape the pain into a powerful force for change. For support with child bereavement, charities such as Child Bereavement UK do some incredible work in this space. #restinpower #southport #childsafety #denouncehate #racismawareness #rebuildinglivestogether

In a world often overshadowed by negativity and conflict, the enduring presence of humanity and kindness shines through in countless ways. Acts of compassion and generosity remind us of our shared human connection. From community volunteers helping those in need to strangers offering a simple smile or a helping hand, these moments of kindness ripple through society, fostering hope and unity. Stories of individuals and organizations making a difference abound: neighbors supporting each other during crises, medical professionals going beyond the call of duty, and everyday heroes showing extraordinary empathy. These actions, big or small, reaffirm our belief in the goodness inherent in people. Charitable initiatives and grassroots movements further demonstrate this spirit. Whether it's providing meals to the hungry, sheltering the homeless, or advocating for social justice, these efforts illustrate a collective commitment to creating a better world. Social media also amplifies these positive stories, inspiring others to act with kindness and compassion. Despite challenges and uncertainties, humanity's capacity for kindness prevails. It is this unwavering spirit that nurtures resilience and cultivates a sense of community. Ultimately, the everyday acts of kindness we witness and partake in serve as a testament to the enduring power of empathy and compassion in our lives.

We are deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic death of Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old African American woman, who was unjustly killed in her home by police officers. This incident, captured on body camera, is yet another stark reminder of the systemic issues plaguing our society. We cannot afford to remain silent when such injustices occur. Each of us has a role to play in advocating for change and ensuring that every individual, regardless of their race, is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. What if this was your mother, sister, daughter, niece, or friend? At Nonprofit Fundraising Management (NFM), we are committed to supporting efforts that address these critical issues—it’s one of the primary reasons we do what we do: support Black Churches in their efforts to increase education, health, prosperity, safety, and growth in their communities and beyond. We believe in the power of community action and the importance of standing together against injustice. How You Can Help Fight for Justice! - Get Involved: Join local advocacy groups and participate in peaceful protests. - Raise Awareness: Use your voice on social media and in your community to highlight these injustices. - Support Change: Donate to and volunteer for organizations dedicated to reforming the criminal justice system and supporting victims' families. By coming together, we can drive the change needed to prevent such tragedies in the future. Let's honor Sonya Massey by committing to justice and equality for all. #JusticeForSonya #EndPoliceBrutality #NFMforChange #BlackLivesMatter #DoSomething
