Experiencing 'Plastic Reality'. What's happened so far on the #plasticrealityproject? Day 1 took us deep into the heart of the Himalayan region, where Project Pavitra Parvat is tackling unique challenges of waste management in mountain communities. We saw first hand the realities of plastic pollution at waste hotspots, where impact on local communities and wildlife is all too visible. It left a powerful impression on all of us. On Day 2, we rolled up our sleeves and got hands-on with a cleanup at the foothills of the Himalayas. Everyone got involved, experiencing a flavor of the hard work that goes into plastic recovery projects. We also had an inspiring session with our incredible partners at Waste Warriors Society, who shared their visions for Project Pavitra Parvat and beyond. Later, we toured the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), where we witnessed the sorting and transforming of plastic waste into new products. Some of us tried the waste sorting ourselves, which is not nearly as easy as the waste warriors make it look! But perhaps the deepest connections and impact came from our conversations with these waste warriors. Hearing their pride in being part of Project Pavitra Parvat (Hallowed Hills) was humbling. It’s not just a job: it’s dignity, stability, and building a brighter future for their families. The solutions to plastic waste, when done right, can change lives as well as clean the environment. ?? Reflecting on the Plastic Reality Project 2024 ?? I’m incredibly grateful and honored to have facilitated and programmed the Plastic Reality Project for the third year in a row. Bringing together representatives from global brands, we spent a week diving deep into understanding the scale of the plastic problem and exploring the solutions that can truly drive change. What stands out to me year after year is how much hope this journey restores in humanity. When you bring together people who genuinely care, foster deep awareness, encourage reflection, and create real connections, transformation becomes possible—not just on an individual level, but across communities, organizations, and industries. ?? There’s something profound about confronting the problem firsthand. No amount of photos, videos, or discussions can replace witnessing the issue with your own eyes. But what makes this experience even more powerful is engaging directly with those affected by the problem and the incredible people working on the ground to solve it. The joy, hope, and connection shared during these moments is unparalleled. This project reminds me every time how powerful and necessary this work is, especially because I see firsthand the upward mobility of the local waste champions I’ve met. People I bonded with years ago are thriving in ways that inspire me deeply. For example, I reconnected with a Chechi from Kerala who I met two years ago, and seeing her growth—complete with a new bike and confidence was amazing. And this year, I had the chance to meet some incredible women in Dehradun, where we bonded over the wonders of menstrual cups. It’s so powerful to see how these women are not only working to segregate and manage plastic waste as a profession but are personally invested in preventing plastic waste in their own lives. These experiences remind me that the work we do is about more than solving the plastic crisis—it’s about empowering individuals and fostering real, lasting change in communities that are most affected. Here’s to all the amazing people I’ve had the privilege to work with Lekha Rath Demetrius Jacob Kamal Raj Vinay Sharma Veenaa Annamalai Pranav Narang Aurélie Amsellem Surabhi Jain Sarath Kumar —and to the ongoing journey of creating positive change. ?? #PlasticRealityProject #Sustainability #Facilitation #AwarenessToAction #TransformativeChange #Gratitude

Wrapping up the #PlasticRealityProject: reflections from the final day. We had the pleasure of introducing Jabir Karat from Green Worms to the attendees. Jabir is a changemaker in waste management and ethical employment, our partner for Project Hara Kal, and an all-round hero whose dedication to creating sustainable solutions is inspiring. We then joined the door-to-door waste collection in the neighborhood - supported by Project Hara Kal and our partner brands. We followed the waste's journey to the Material Recovery Facility. There we saw how plastic waste is sorted, and found a renewed appreciation for the work happening behind the scenes to fight plastic pollution. One of the best parts of the day was the warm welcome from the waste warriors. Their pride in the work they do was contagious. We also had a special lunch — a traditional Kerala meal served on banana leaves — which felt like a perfect nod to eco-friendly living. We ended the day with some fun: tug of war and musical chairs with the waste warriors. The energy, laughter, and simple joy of those moments were unforgettable. Last but not least, we gathered for closing circles. Hearing everyone’s personal stories and takeaways over the course of this week has been incredibly moving, and today's shared reflections on what this journey meant to us was no different. This experience aims to change how people think about plastic waste, and to inspire hope through some of the incredible people and solutions that are working to solve this crisis. We’re leaving with new friends, deeper partnerships, and a stronger commitment to making a difference. Innersense Organic Beauty, Lintbells | Home of YuMOVE, Thrive Market, Olyra Foods, VAHDAM? ?? ?????????? (??????????????) ?????????? ???????????? ??????! ?? World Rivers Day, observed every year on the fourth Sunday of September, reminds us of the essential role rivers play in sustaining ecosystems, biodiversity, and human well-being. Yet, river pollution remains a growing threat—especially from household waste. Microplastics, synthetic fibres, and hazardous chemicals entering waterways through domestic wastewater systems are significant contributors to this degradation ??. At CircleUp, our mission is to empower households to lead the transition to a circular economy. We focus on reducing the environmental impact of household waste, particularly in key sectors: textiles, food, packaging, and consumer electronics. This directly aligns with protecting freshwater ecosystems by minimising pollution at its source ??. ????????????????: Microfibre pollution is a major issue. Our project encourages the use of sustainable, durable materials and closed-loop recycling to mitigate river contamination. Biodegradable fibres further reduce environmental impact. ??????????????????: By supporting innovations like bioplastics and reuse systems, we work to reduce the dependency on single-use plastics and create circular solutions for packaging ??. ???????????????? ??????????????????????: Toxic e-waste poses a growing threat to water systems. Our interventions target design for disassembly, repairability, and extended product lifecycles to keep harmful substances out of rivers ??. ???????? ??????????: Mismanaged food waste contributes to nutrient pollution in waterways. Today is #EarthDay, where we take an extra moment to remember the importance of environmental conservation of the planet we call our home, encouraging joint action for a world where we can all live well and within planetary boundaries. At FMO, our Facility Services department helps us to operate in the #circulareconomy as much as possible. One critical way we do this is by carefully sorting and disposing all of our waste, which helps to prevent the incineration of valuable raw materials. This way, we contribute to #SDG12: Responsible Consumption and Production. ? More importantly, most of the materials that we call “waste” are not actually waste in true sense. They are just “waste” for a particular purpose. The different materials still have a lot of potential to be reused or given a new life. ? That's why we sort our "waste" into several categories: organic, orange peel, coffee grounds, paper, plastics & drink packs, glass, writing utensils (pens & markers), batteries, and e-waste. Of our waste streams, just 13% (2023) is residual waste. The other 87% is sorted into recyclable and circular material streams. Through measures like these, we've been able to reduce our total waste from 140 kg per FTE in 2019 to just 45 kg per FTE in 2023, of which plastic waste went from 6kg to 2.35 kg per FTE in the same time period. ? By looking closely at our waste streams, we can better manage the procurement of materials. Through concrete steps like these, we can jointly reduce our (plastic) waste for the planet's health. #EarthDay2024 #ClimateAction #ActOnClimate

?? At The Waste Lab, our commitment towards sustainability shines through in every part of our process. In this picture, you can see our team hard at work sorting watermelon rinds, collected from one of our hotel partners (yes, it’s summer!??) and mushroom substrate from Below Farm to prepare them for nature-based composting. ???? By carefully combining these organic materials, we turn what could have ended up in a landfill into rich, valuable compost. This isn't just about waste reduction; it's about creating resources that support healthier soils and a greener planet. Every piece of food that is not wasted, properly sorted and composted is a step toward a more regenerative future. ???? #Sustainability #WasteManagement #Composting #CircularEconomy #TheWasteLab

Nature provides a free lunch, but only if we control our appetites. We won't have a society if we destroy the environment. On World Environment Day, let's pause to reflect on the above statements. At Ampcustech, we urge all to come together to stand against environmental degradation. The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. So let's get started!!! There are numerous ways individuals and communities can contribute to conserving the environment. Here are some practical actions: 1. **Reduce, Reuse, Recycle**: Minimize waste by reducing consumption, reusing items, and recycling materials like paper, glass, and plastic. 2. **Conserve Water**: Fix leaks, take shorter showers, and use water-efficient appliances to reduce water consumption. 3. **Save Energy**: Use energy-efficient appliances, switch to LED bulbs, and unplug devices when not in use. Consider renewable energy sources like solar or wind power. 4. **Plant Trees**: Trees absorb CO2, improve air quality, and provide habitat for wildlife. Participate in local tree-planting initiatives. 5. **Use Public Transport**: Reduce carbon emissions by using public transportation, carpooling, biking, or walking instead of driving. 6. **Support Sustainable Practices**: Buy products made from sustainable materials, support companies with eco-friendly practices, and choose local and organic foods. 7. **Reduce Meat Consumption**: The meat industry is a significant contributor to greenhouse gases. Eating less meat and more plant-based foods can reduce your carbon footprint. 8. **Avoid Single-Use Plastics**: Use reusable bags, bottles, and containers instead of disposable ones. 9. **Compost Organic Waste**: Composting reduces landfill waste and produces nutrient-rich soil for gardening. 10. **Educate and Advocate**: Spread awareness about environmental issues, support environmental policies, and participate in or organize community clean-up events. #Ampcustech #WorldEnvironmentDay #SaveOurPlanet #EnvironmentalAwareness #EcoFriendly# GreenLiving #SustainableFuture #ProtectOurEarth #ClimateAction #GoGreen #EarthCare #ZeroWaste #NatureConservation #Biodiversity #RenewableEnergy #ReduceReuseRecycle
