The City of Jamestown, New York, is all in on manufacturing, with 14 percent of area adults working in the field. But as those workers retire, are there enough replacements in the pipeline to keep the plants humming? It’s a question we find locals raising as we “Focus On” Jamestown, in Western New York State: https://lnkd.in/eqecEreY “When we poll our members, it is currently the largest, most significant challenge they’re having,” says Todd Tranum, executive director of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier and president of Dream It Do It WNY. “Some companies have opportunities to grow, but their growth is limited by the fact that they can’t find the people they need to fill these positions. “Western New York has not had an enormous amount of population growth,” he adds. “We’re looking at the demographics and we’re realizing at some point those baby boomers are going to exit our workforces.” Adds Mayor Kimberly Ecklund: “We need to really educate people. ...
