One of the critical policy questions facing Californians is how to approach the #energytransition from oil and gas toward other sustainable, resilient, and equitable local economic strategies. Pieces of this are happening now, for instance in the conversation in both northern and southern CA on whether and how refineries can be repurposed into infrastructure for lower-carbon fuels like #sustainableaviationfuel (SAF). It's a critical question both at a high level -- is this type of repurposing possible? -- and locally -- Will this type of transition help to replace jobs and tax base that might otherwise be lost? And of course, any transition planning needs to engage communities and workers on the ground. If you care about all these questions and want to get in there and help, check out this new job posting from the United Steelworkers (USW). They're right there in the middle, working to preserve high road jobs in a way that advances California's critical climate, labor, and equity goals.

We’re proud to announce the release of our most extensive feature yet: The Road to a Just Energy Transition – A road trip through five of South Africa's provinces, exploring the risks and opportunities of the transition to cleaner energy This ambitious project has involved each member of the Outlier team as well as specialist writers and photographers. Putting this together, we’ve gained valuable insights from community leaders, energy experts as well as workers on the ground. Initially conceived as a road trip across the country, we follow the transition to more climate-friendly energy across five provinces. There are charts, timelines, tables, photographs and interviews. At the heart of this project is the reminder that data is truly the story of people. ?? Komati, Mpumalanga: What happens when SA’s oldest power plant is decommissioned? Discover innovative microgrids and fish farming solutions. ?? Melrose Arch, Gauteng: Hit hard by loadshedding, one of Joburg’s wealthiest business districts takes control of its own power. ?? Prieska, Northern Cape: A small town with massive potential to power the country with clean energy. ?? Cape Town, Western Cape: The city’s feed-in scheme lets businesses and residents earn from excess power, but is it sustainable? ??? Cookhouse, Eastern Cape: Meet the community empowered by South Africa’s first wind farm to connect to the grid. This feature is made possible with the support of the Pulitzer Center. ?? Explore The Road to a Just Energy Transition here:https://lnkd.in/d8aWtczf ?? Drop us a comment and let us know your thoughts, or email us on [email protected] ?? We'll be sharing more about this project over the next few weeks. If you'd like to find out more, sign up for our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dMU2_kFe

Energy is the key to Tasmania’s future. Tasmania has the best hydro and wind resource in the nation. But we need to take urgent action on the projects that will unlock that potential. Projects like Abel Energy’s Green Methanol plant at Bell Bay have the potential to create hundreds of jobs and lock in the future of manufacturing in the state. These would be highly skilled, well paid, safe and secure jobs. The latest CommSec - State of the States report - shows our economy continues to slow and young people are leaving our state in droves. With our economy flatlining, we can’t afford to let these significant economic opportunities slip.

Short and long term support for small isolated systems at work here! Super important on many levels: ·???????We know that many small systems are not financially or operationally sustainable. One key solution is to consolidate the small system into a nearby regional authority.?A key challenge is who will bear the expenses of developing a consolidation analysis and plan.? ·???????These small systems, mostly serving manufactured homes for Spanish-speaking families who work on farms, are falling in part and put these hardy people at risk. ·???????Moonshot Missions is able through the #WaterTA program to provide support to prepare these systems for consolidation – evaluating engineering and governance issues. ·???????Moonshot Missions also seeks to implement immediate steps to help secure clean water until consolidation can occur. A local community group with relationships in the region is essential – and we are blessed by the efforts of Pueblo Unido. Love this work by our #EFC West team, including Lydia Rossiter Reshet S. Gebremariam Joy Pearson EIT, MBA Genevieve Mancuso, P.E. Do you know a small system that can use a helpful hand to evaluate a plan to consolidate with a nearby Authority??Moonshot Missions is at the ready: [email protected]
Moonshot Missions visited the Coachella Valley to meet with small community water system owners. In partnership with Pueblo Unido, Moonshot hosted a community meeting to have a discussion and allow system owners to ask questions regarding the consolidation efforts of the Coachella Valley Water District. Moonshot Missions is working to meet the immediate needs of the systems and help the owners prepare for future consolidation. ??Did you know that Australia’s water sector is supported by 850 providers and employs 27,700 people across various regions? These utilities and service providers are the backbone of our economy, ensuring water supply, sewerage, and drainage services for both urban and rural communities. ?? While many of these employees are based in metropolitan areas, a significant portion is stationed in regional and rural areas, maintaining critical infrastructure that supports agriculture, industry, and households. These regional roles are essential to the country's sustainability and resilience. ??? With over 820 dams and countless other water-related infrastructure assets across Australia, the sector is vast and complex. These assets need constant attention and skilled professionals to operate them. and that where we come in! ??In 2025, we’re planning something exciting. We’ll be taking Utility Careers on a tour across Australia, visiting these crucial assets in both metro and regional areas. Our goal? To support recruitment efforts in regional communities, ensuring that skilled talent can thrive where it's needed most. Calling all #Retired #Annuitants!! US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been working hard to implement the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) over the course of the last two years. Both laws have created historic opportunities to advance the mission of the EPA but also require the Agency to award a historic number of small and large grants in a narrow timeframe. ? EPA is pursuing numerous hiring options to support BIL and IRA implementation including bringing on retired former EPA #grants project officers and grants specialists on a temporary basis as reemployed annuitants. Dual compensation waivers for qualified candidates may be considered. ? Individuals brought on to EPA under this program would work as project officers with new grantees and will provide advice and assistance to state, local and / or tribal governments and non-profits to help facilitate the success of the grants and the grantees. ? This is a great opportunity to ensure that EPA has the resources to manage these grants and for the country and grantees to succeed in their environmental goals!??Please think about it. ?
