Every challenge faced by Delaware's resilient creative sector presents an opportunity for greater growth, equity, and sustainability for our economy. By conducting surveys and focus groups with 600+ Delawareans in the creative economy, the CREATE Plan has uncovered some insights into areas where a lack of resources or support is stifling growth. Here are a few of the things we've learned: ?? There's a perception that Delaware isn't seen as a cultural tourism destination, indicating a need to better showcase its creative cultural and heritage sites. ?? Proximity to major cities poses a challenge for Delaware in attracting live music and film productions without the right policy infrastructure and incentives in place. ?? Stakeholders identified unequal access to arts education and universities being disconnected from local employers as roadblocks to creative economy growth. Enhancing collaboration between arts educators and employers could retain local talent. ?? Roundtable discussions highlighted the underrepresentation of women and BIPOC in the creative sector. By fostering inclusion, Delaware can harness the full potential of its talented workforce. Stay tuned for the CREATE Plan unveiling later this month! Managing mental load is real for everyone. Research, however, shows women still carry a heavier proportion of the mental load. The thing is, we all experience it differently and there are no silver bullets. This MOVE Project interview really resonated with me. As Moss Adams' Inclusion & Social Responsibility leader, Tricia highlights some simple things we can do at an individual level as well some great ideas organizations can lean in to support their people. Check out this insightful interview with Tricia Bencich:

We should never lose sight of the idea that most fundamental to a peaceful and prosperous society is the fulfillment of the hopes, aspirations and dreams that people have for themselves, family, friends and what they value most. Culture has always been a vital cornerstone, bringing joy, meaning and a prism of opportunity to express and engage with our inner selves and the people and ideas that surround, shape and reshape us. At The Leap, like many funding and support organisations we want to help people and places to thrive - to enable ordinary people, to have agency, to do extraordinary things that can make the biggest difference. But very often, people don't want to do big things, to scale, grow or change systems, they simply want to do things that just really matter to them in places and spaces that are.most meaningful to them. That's why I believe that small amounts of money often alongside volunteers and some well targeted help is equally as important as ideas that can generate investment and create impact at scale. At The Leap, collaborating with Calderdale Council, we are doing just that with The Leap into Culturedale Awards, to give people who may not otherwise, in areas with the least opportunity, step forward with creative ideas, and have a go at making meaning and bringing joy through arts, culture and heritage.
