Let’s start with the SDG15-SIX-DAY-SERIES This is day 1 Goal 15 is about conserving life on land. It is to protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and stop biodiversity loss. Earth’s ecosystems are vital for sustaining human life, they contribute to over half of global GDP and encompass diverse cultural, spiritual, and economic values. Between 2015 and 2019, at least 100 million hectares of healthy and productive land were degraded every year, impacting the lives of 1.3 billion people. Global and regional efforts to sustain forest ecosystems as well as their social, economic and environmental functions are essential, in particular for developing countries and the tropics. ?? ?? ?? Lost & Founds ?? can contribute to reducing #climatechange and boost social projects. Well, it is not the L&F themselves, but the commitment by any #touroperators, #hospitality providers, #transportation service providers and the travellers too. What do you do with unclaimed/uncollected L&F when the #travel is over? Often, companies will simply throw it into the garbage pile. But, there actually is a better option. As our colleague Saurav Lamichhane (on the left in the picture) says: “Apart from unique experiences, some travellers leave behind their stuff ?? What better use of it than to donate to someone in need.” We had stocked Lost & Founds for 2-3 years but their legitimate owner was not interested in them. Then, rather than throwing the L&F into the incinerator, last year we have donated them to Fida International. Now, such L&F had a small impact: 1) On climate change by not burning / destroying them; 2) On climate change by reselling them, instead of using resources to create new items; 3) On social projects because “the profit from Fida secondhand shops are used to fund the work of Fida International in over 40 countries. Fida is a Finnish missions and development cooperation organisation.” What if you have just a little box of Lost & Found? Still, you can donate to organisations such as Fida, and every traveller can purchase from trustworthy second hand shops with a social project. Even better, sharing is caring! ?? If we share such an approach and mindset, we can contribute to climate change and social projects.

The ocean is in a state of emergency as increasing eutrophication, acidification, ocean warming and plastic pollution worsen its health. Additionally, the alarming trend of overfishing persists, leading to the depletion of over one third of global fish stocks. ?? While there has been some progress in expanding marine protected areas, combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, banning fishing subsidies and supporting small-scale fishers, action is not advancing at the speed or scale required to meet Goal 14. ?? ?? ?? Aravindan Srinivasan, Executive Director, Climate Action at #AVPN, emphasised the urgency of the situation: "As we convene at #COP29, the climate crisis in Asia is more pressing than ever. Climate events are projected to cause two billion disability-adjusted life years by 2050, with Asia bearing a significant burden."
