We heard that Los Alamos became a Bee City, so we were wondering, what does that exactly means? ?? The title "Bee City" in the United States implies that the city has taken specific measures to protect and promote the health of bees and other pollinators. Resilient Rural Producers At the heart of rural communities are the producers,farmers, artisans, and small business owners,whose resilience is vital for community stability. Resilience in this context means the ability to adapt to changing conditions, whether they be economic, environmental, or social. Building resilience involves providing education and training to improve skills, introducing sustainable farming practices, and encouraging diversification of crops and products. By empowering producers to withstand and adapt to challenges, communities can maintain their livelihoods and reduce the risk of conflict over scarce resources.

Earlier this year, Penfolds proudly launched the inaugural Evermore Grant Program in Australia, designed to fund bold and innovative community initiatives. Four successful recipients, PlantingSeeds, Mobius Farms, A Fitting Connection, and Barossa Farmers Market, were awarded funding for their innovative projects that strengthened community connection, improved biodiversity and ecosystem health, and create positive impact for the future. It's so easy to skim over these brief impact communications, so I invite you to reflect for a moment on this one... 37 people employed in a remote Kenyan town with few employment opportunities to work in greenhouse operation that provides trees for reforestation across the landscape... a fraction of the >400 fulltime jobs that have been created by the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project. How do you protect forests? By creating value for the people who choose to conserve them. REDD+ is the only proven, scalable mechanism that enables us to do this in every threatened forest on our dear planet Earth.

Imagine you're a farmer like Debbie Wilkins from Gloucestershire. You want to plant new hedgerows and lay older hedges to rejuvenate them - work that will boost biodiversity on the farm. But then, without warning, the rug is pulled out from under you. Defra has temporarily closed applications for SFI capital grants due to high demand. For farmers, this isn’t just inconvenient - it’s chaos. These grants are essential for projects like planting trees and hedges, which have to be done at the right time of year. Debbie explains it perfectly: "The frustrating thing about these grants is that it's got to be the right time of year to do the work. A delay could mean waiting months. And this isn’t work we can afford to do out of pocket - it’s about nature, not profit." Missing this year’s window means even more pressure on next year’s targets. Farmers need certainty to act now, not later.
