Let's be honest, last week was a heavy week for a lot of us. However, I believe that community is what gets us through those hard times. I'm seeing more and more people say that they're going to focus on their local community as well as themselves, and I'm here for it. There's power in us coming together and investing locally. So, if you're someone who wants to invest in Black and Allied-owned businesses in your local area, feel free to download RealOnes. And if you're someone who owns a Black or Ally-owned business, then feel free to download and join RealOnes (only takes 5 minutes of your time). Now is not the time to give up hope. Now is the time to keep pushing and focus on your community. Progress happens when we unite, come together, and practice love rather than hate. P.S. You can join the movement here:?https://zurl.co/RBlU #JoinTheMovement

As #10KSB celebrates the strength and tenacity of Black?entrepreneurs this #BlackHistoryMonth, I am honored to highlight Nia-Tayler Clark, M.Ed, whose story showcases her spirit of resilience and demonstrates the importance of community support. Her Dallas-based business, BLACKLIT?is more than a bookstore; it's a haven of representation and literacy, a place where the readers can find books that resonate with their experiences and identities. Nia-Tayler's mission has always been to uplift and educate through literature that speaks to and for the Black?community. A year ago, Nia-Tayler was faced with the daunting possibility of her business losing its location. Nia-Tayler recalls: "In January of last year, our bookstore faced eviction, and in less than 24 hours, we had raised over $20,000 to get those doors back open. [Our community] came through for us in a big way." This moment of adversity wasn't just a setback; it was a defining instance of resilience and community strength. When the doors were at risk of closing, it was the collective support and swift action of Nia-Tayler and those who believed the BLACKLIT?mission that turned the tide. She continues: “I know BLACKLIT?is supposed to be here when people walk through the doors of the bookstore and they just give this deep breath of relief like ‘I'm home.’” Let's reflect on our own paths—how do we see resilience shaping our entrepreneurial endeavors? Have you experienced a moment where your community's support was crucial? Learn more about BLACKLIT?here: https://iamblacklit.com/

When I reflect on starting ZICO Rising 20 years ago, I laugh about how confident I was. I felt certain about so many aspects of the business – what the “right” decisions were; how the brand should be built, and what were “good" results. Most of these turned out to be completely wrong. It’s okay when that happens. Two decades later, part of my learning has been to recognize our built-in biases and how our decision-making process can be influenced by them and not lead to the best decisions. How do we combat that? Challenge your assumptions. In virtually every situation at GroundForce Capital, we ask ourselves: Are we sure? It's easy to have opinions. Even when we form perspectives based on substantial research, it’s important to challenge them. Arguably more important is this follow-up: What if the opposite were true? This exercise can just be a playful devil’s advocate game. But it’s powerful to imagine how the exact opposite of our thinking could at least possibly be as or more true. For example, one of our top young associates on our investment team at GroundForce proposed a new deal. He worked hard on it, did extensive due diligence, and was convinced it was the right move for us. When he wrapped his presentation, I asked: Are you sure? What if the opposite were true? Initially, he had a hard time with these questions and got defensive. Gradually, I saw him open up to the possibilities. He started listing reasons why it might be the wrong deal or even the wrong time to do it. He led the discussion while the rest of us chimed in. As we dissected the deal piece by piece, he stopped taking it personally. This wasn’t about him. It was about all of us reaching the best conclusion. This exercise sparked deep, insightful – and necessary – discussions about risks and led to us finding mitigants that we never would have tapped into without this process. Before you get too far down a path. Before you make a final decision, as yourself: 1. Are you sure? 2. What if the opposite were true? – This post is Lesson 8 in my series: ???? ?????????????? ???? ???? ?????????? ???? ????????. Follow along for insights from then, now, and in between.

Be like Wes. In 2025, I’m inviting 17 old and new friends to join me at the family farm. Completely selfless (misspelling - selfish) move on my part. My son-in-law (Nashville singer songwriter w/a man bun & loves my daughter) and I will invite others with musical chops to record a song together. I will handle the cooking. I went to Culinary School and you’ll eat my paper plate meals and think WHAT? Get jacked on Guinness Stout 0 (NA) and HopWtr. I kind of want to invest in some people I think are LinkedIn talented but want to support in real life. Launch a new merch line together? Ideate a new community? Get a tattoo with my 84 year old mom? Get personal round the fire pit. I’ll have Paul, our Art Director (FEED), make a documentary of the 5 days that will make us cry and laugh. When we launched The Content Crib 2.0 (25-26 October) and The Content Crib 3.0 (Feb 11-12 2025) we sold out 2.0 quickly and are rapidly filling up 3.0. I need community. You can’t pay me to attend a tradeshow, but I’ll build a version of Woodstock on the land that Grandpa Scott raised Black Angus. I think LinkedIn can foster a virtual supportive community and build friendships that meet in person. I want to be like Wes next year. Feels like I’m supposed to charge up the Rivian + Lightship camper and meet folks where they live, work, and play. What inspires you to be in community?

Some members of the Black community perceive Black-owned businesses as inferior. Is this perception or fact? In my opinion, there are many Black-owned businesses striving to succeed in today’s economy but facing significant challenges. These challenges are influenced by various factors, including historical and systemic racism, internalized racism, economic difficulties, and disparities in resource access. To change this perception, we need to shift our mindset. It’s essential to support and uplift Black-owned businesses through targeted investments, community support, and giving these businesses opportunities to thrive. When requesting quotes, make sure to include BBBEE suppliers. Collaboration between the government and Black entrepreneurs can help change these perceptions. Remember, a Black man's ICE is just as cold. #businesses #siphuma_music_studio #SMstudio #Podcaststudio #videography
