World Organ Donation Day is observed every year on August 13th to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and to encourage people to become organ donors. The day serves as a reminder of the critical need for organ transplants, which can save lives and improve the quality of life for recipients suffering from serious health conditions. The main objectives of World Organ Donation Day include: 1. **Raising Awareness:** Educating the public about the need for organ donors, the process of organ donation, and how it can save lives. 2. **Encouraging Donations:** Motivating people to pledge to donate their organs after death and to discuss their decision with family members. 3. **Dispel Myths:** Addressing and correcting common misconceptions and fears about organ donation. 4. **Celebrating Donors:** Honoring those who have donated their organs and the families who have made the decision to donate their loved ones' organs. By promoting organ donation, this day helps to increase the number of donors worldwide, reducing the waiting list for those in need of transplants.

A Drop Closer to Saving a Life ?? Today, I took a small step with a big impact – I donated blood. Knowing that a single donation can save up to three lives made this experience deeply personal and meaningful for me. We often get caught up in the daily rush, but moments like this remind me of how interconnected we all are. My blood, my own small contribution, could be the lifeline for someone in critical need a person I may never meet, but whose life could be changed forever because of a simple act of kindness. There’s something incredibly empowering about giving back in this way. Blood cannot be manufactured; it only comes from generous donors. That’s why it’s essential that more of us step up, especially since donated blood has a short shelf life. Why did I choose to donate? The stats alone are compelling: every two seconds, someone needs blood, yet only a fraction of eligible people donate regularly. Each pint of blood donated can save up to three lives – three people who might be battling an illness, recovering from an accident, or undergoing a life-saving surgery. There’s something deeply humbling about the process. As I watched my blood flow into the bag, I thought about the hands that would receive it, the lives it could change. This wasn’t just about me giving; it was about a silent connection, a shared humanity. I encourage everyone reading this to consider donating if they can. It’s one of the simplest yet most impactful ways to give back. We might never know whose life we touched, but they’ll know that someone, somewhere, cared enough to give. Join me in making a difference. It takes just a few minutes, but the impact lasts a lifetime. ?? Together, we can be the difference. ?? #BloodDonation #GiveLife #CompassionInAction #MakeADifference

Today, we commemorate #DonateLife Blue and Green Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about tissue and organ donation. As we reflect on this day, two crucial issues come to light regarding transplant care. First, it’s critical to acknowledge the pivotal role that caregivers play through every step of the process. Most living donations occur within families, increasing the likelihood of the donor becoming a caregiver to the recipient. Second, it's imperative to address the inequities families of color face to access the waitlist, find a suitable match, and navigate the donation process. Read NAC's Transplant Caregiving in the U.S Report to learn about how family caregivers are unrecognized, unprepared and under-resourced, and the urgent need to increase support services in the transplant system.? https://lnkd.in/ePBVe8mv #BlueandGreenDay #TransplantCare

Absolutely thrilled to share that I finally did it! I donated blood today and in just one hour, potentially saved three lives. This achievement means a lot to me, especially after four attempts and a year of trying. Donating blood is one of the most selfless acts we can perform. It's a simple yet profound way to make a difference in someone's life. The entire process takes only about an hour, with the actual donation lasting just 5-10 minutes. Plus, it has personal health benefits like: Health Check-Up Heart Health Cancer Risk Reduction: Weight Management: Psychological Well-Being A week after donating, you'll receive an email with your test results and details about how your blood was used, whether it helped a child or an adult. I'm incredibly proud to be a part of this life-saving journey and encourage everyone to consider donating. It's a small effort with an immense impact! Before making an appointment, please remember to check if you are eligible to donate. Please see the link below if you are interested in signing up. Want to help a blood bank without donating blood? The answer is organising a blood donation campaign/ drive. Benefits of Organizing Blood Donation Camps: Saving Lives: Every unit of blood can save up to three lives, crucial for surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatment, and chronic conditions like thalassemia and hemophilia. Community Engagement: These camps unite communities for a noble cause, fostering social responsibility. Raising Awareness: They help dispel myths and spread the importance of regular blood donation. Encouraging Voluntary Donations: Moving away from replacement donors, camps encourage voluntary, non-remunerated donations, which are safer and more sustainable. Importance of Blood Donation Camps: To meet the minimum requirements, the WHO states that a country needs at least 1% of its population to donate blood. Step-by-Step Guide to Organize a Camp: Planning and Preparation: Identify the need, choose a suitable date and venue, form a committee, and ensure adequate donor participation. Collaborate with a Blood Bank: Partner with a licensed blood bank to provide trained staff and equipment. Obtain Necessary Permissions: Seek permissions from local authorities for using public spaces. Promote the Event: Use social media, newspapers, radio, posters, and word-of-mouth to attract donors. Set Up the Venue: Ensure proper timing, space arrangement, power supply, lighting, and facilities. Conduct Pre-Donation Screening: Check donor eligibility and educate them about the process. Blood Collection: Ensure a comfortable and hygienic environment for donors. Post-Donation Care: Provide refreshments, guide on post-donation care, and ensure proper disposal of equipment. Record Keeping and Follow-Up: Maintain detailed donor records and send appreciation messages. Feedback and Evaluation: Gather feedback to improve future camps. Final Thoughts: Organizing a blood donation camp requires meticulous planning and community engagement, but the impact is immeasurable. It not only meets immediate patient needs but also fosters a sustainable culture of voluntary blood donation. By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth and impactful donation experience, helping to save lives and make a lasting difference. Ready to organize your next blood donation drive? Start planning today and be the change you wish to see! #BloodDonation #SaveLives #CommunityEngagement #Healthcare #VoluntaryDonation #GiveBlood https://wix.to/BKWWYRg #newblogpost

April is #DonateLifeMonth. It's an important month for the CF community. When people with CF run out of treatment options, #lungtransplant is their only hope. In addition, due to comorbidities of CF and medication side effects, people with CF can end up needing other organ transplants as well, including kidney, liver, or even heart/lung. Organ donation is the ultimate gift — the most selfless way to pay it forward and ensure that when you no longer need your organs, you can give life (and hope and a future) to someone who otherwise wouldn't get it. There is no greater impact a person can leave behind. In honor of #DonateLife Month, if you're not signed up already, we encourage you to become an organ, eye, and tissue donor. ?????? While many of us eagerly anticipate the joy and warmth that Christmas brings, it's important to remember that not everyone is fortunate enough to experience the same festive cheer ?? Take part in our gift drive this Christmas to bring smiles to the faces of those who may find the holiday season challenging due to challenging health circumstances. ? We are reaching out to our wonderful community to kindly contribute and make a difference in the lives of those in need ?? Your generosity can truly brighten someone's Christmas and make it a memorable and special time for them. ? HOW YOU CAN HELP: 1. Donate a gift: Consider donating a new, unwrapped gift suitable for all ages before December 16. Wishlist does receive many toys for young children, but teenagers and the elderly often miss out. Here are some ideas:? - Gift vouchers (eg: Event Cinemas, Rebel Sport, JB Hi Fi, Sunshine Plaza, Coles, Woolworths or Bunnings) - Clothing and hats - Skincare or haircare products - hair dryers or hair straighteners, makeup, toiletries - Sporting activities – balls, fishing rods, cricket sets, beach toys - Gifts for seniors (eg: crossword or puzzle books, food hampers, toiletries, moisturisers, soaps etc)? - Arts and Craft (paint by numbers is particularly popular!) - Food hampers and pet food ? 2. Monetary contributions: If you're short on time, a monetary donation is a meaningful way to make a difference. By ‘paying it forward’, you can cover a night’s stay at a Wishlist hospital accommodation facility for a family facing a health crisis. A donation of $90 to wishlist.org.au can offer a night’s rest and relief for a family facing tough times this Christmas. ? 3. Spread the word: Share this initiative with friends, family, and colleagues. The more people involved, the greater the impact we can make together. You can drop-off your physical donations at the Wishlist office located at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital on Ground floor by December 18, 2024. ? Let's make this holiday season a little brighter for those facing a tough time. Thank you for your support ?? #sunshinecoast #christmasdrive #donate #community #support #thankyou #christmasgiftdrive #localcharity #hospitalcharity

Running to Save Lives On September 21st, I'll be running the Red Feather Trail Jamboree 50K, my third ultramarathon since becoming a double donor (kidney & 60% of my liver). I share to inspire others, as one can be a donor and continue to live a healthy, active lifestyle! The Problem: Every day, 16 people lose their lives while waiting for an organ that could come from a living donor. Even if every American registers as a deceased organ and tissue donor, there would still be a drastic shortage of organs available for transplantation. My Reaction: After learning about the problem in 2010, I felt compelled to act. I spent hours learning about living donation. While I didn't have a family member or friend directly in need, I learned that you can make a non-directed donation - meaning a transplant center can use your gift for the best match. In my case, my kidney donation turned into a donation chain, as 6 additional kidney transplants were possible. About 9 years later, I learned that a living donor can donate twice - becoming a double donor. So after a lot research, contacting multiple transplant centers, testing in two different states, I donated 60% of my liver in 2020 - despite COVID lockdowns and disruptions! Your Opportunity: Now that you are aware of the problem, you have several opportunities: 1. Give. Your financial gift saves lives. American Transplant Foundation doesn’t receive any government or corporate funds and relies on financial contributions to provide services to living donors, transplant recipients, and their loved ones. 2. Consider living donor. That's a big ask, but I promise that it is possible to live a healthy, active life after donation (even after two!). In fact, it was only after becoming a donor (and in my 40s) when I began to enjoy jogging and trail running. The Red Feather Trail 50K will be my 14th running event since becoming a donor, and my 3rd ultramarathon since becoming a double donor! 3. Spread the word. I humbly ask you share this fundraiser with your personal and professional networks. Thank you, and God Bless! We did the math. And it’s simple. We’d love to just focus on our work within the NIH, Mayo Clinic, hospital systems, Canary Corps, state chapters, support groups and more. But we have to start our end of year fundraising. That can start and end TODAY if everyone on our email list gives $36. That’s it. We would be fully funded for 2025. SERIOUSLY. If we get everyone on our list to give $36, we can just focus on doing the work. We know that everyone will not be able to do that! If you can give more consider that you can give $360 (and support 10 people on our list who can’t donate directly) or give $3,600 (and support 100 people on our list who can’t give directly). Give here or use the QR code in the graphic: https://lnkd.in/gk5ktdMv If you can’t donate, we understand. We REALLY, REALLY do! We at #MEAction know this year has been hard for lots of people. One way you are able to help us, if you are not able to give at this time, is to share this post, create your own post, or start a fundraiser (we see you, birthday fundraisers!!!!). We are incredibly grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you, in advance for being you. For joining our movement to improve ME care, treatment, and fight for a cure. #Nonprofit #pwME #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis #MECFS #LongCovid #spoonie #disability ID: Red box with a QR code in the middle.
