Magnolia Perron (NACCA) Magnolia Perron is the Indigenous Women and Youth Manager at the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association (NACCA). She holds a Graduate Diploma in Indigenous Policy and Administration from Carleton University and a Masters in Indigenous Nationhood at the University of Victoria where she focused on entrepreneurship and economic development in Indigenous communities. ? ? ? ?? The Newcomer Entrepreneurship Policy Coalition is now a reality! This coalition, forged over the past year following an accelerator organized by Ashoka Hello Europe, brings together diverse members of the ecosystem committed to supporting migrant entrepreneurs by addressing their key challenges. ?? Amidst the escalating global refugee situation and labor shortages across EU member states, the New Coalition aims to support and promote the socio-economic inclusion of newcomer entrepreneurs. Comprised of four leading organizations - SINGA Forward·Inc Startup Migrants and Migration Policy Group to showcasing the positive economic impact newcomers can bring to European societies. ?? To kick off, the coalition is releasing a high-level policy position paper titled "Newcomer Entrepreneurs: The Missing Heroes of EU Prosperity". This paper underscores the importance of recognizing and supporting newcomer entrepreneurs, offering actionable recommendations for both EU and national policymakers. ?? The insights from this policy paper highlight the urgent need for policies that foster the economic empowerment and long-term inclusion of newcomer entrepreneurs. ??When along with Viktoryia Zakirava we established Ladies Business Club ASA almost two years ago, we couldn't have imagined that our regular Friday meetings would evolve into a 3-day course on how to start and run a business in Poland specifically designed for migrant ladies. ??This ambitious initiative came to life thanks to a grant from Kuchnia Konfliktu under the Refugee Fund Project Luiza Orpik by HIAS and cozy place provided by M?yny Rothera. Creating this intensive weekend course was a significant challenge for us. We had to not only deepen the core topics but also simplify them for easy comprehension. The course had to cover the whole path from developing initial startup ideas to selecting the appropriate legal entity. Within just 24 hours, our workshop accomplished: ?? Generated a variety of startup ideas using Design Thinking tools and selected the most promising one for further development. ?? Analyzed the chosen idea using the Business Model Canvas. ?? Delved into the intricacies of crafting a comprehensive business plan. ?? Explored essential elements of effective marketing strategies. ?? Explored the basics of three primary business structures in Poland: entrepreneurship, sole proprietorship, and limited liability company. ?? Discussed stress management from a physiological perspective and practical coping strategies. ? The course was filled with team-building activities, creativity workshops, networking sessions, and moments of enjoyment like indulging in ice cream — overall, it was a fantastic experience for us all! ??The overwhelmingly positive feedback reaffirms that we've achieved our goal! We're confident we were able to inspire each lady Tatiana Safonova, Alina Petrashyna, Iryna Mankovska, Tatiana Szymańska, Yana Vyshnevska, Juliia Matviishyna, who completed the course not only by providing essential knowledge but also a boost of motivation and bravery. They now have a clearer path forward and potential collaborators to bring their ideas to fruition ?? ?? I met someone curious about community tourism who asked: "What would a tour in Guatemala look like?" As I highlighted the breathtaking touristic and historical aspects of Guatemala, I also shared something deeper—this year, my focus is on organizing purpose-driven tours. These experiences aren’t just about exploring the country but also about contributing meaningfully to the communities you visit. "How does that work?" they asked. For academics, the answer is especially exciting: ?? As a Professor or Researcher, you can go beyond the journey itself. Imagine visiting Guatemala, experiencing its vibrant culture and history, and then contributing academically—perhaps by writing about how Indigenous women are transforming their lives through entrepreneurial initiatives. This could include their efforts in textiles, cacao, honey production, and more. The impact of such work is profound, not only advancing research but also shedding light on critical global issues like economic empowerment, sustainability, and cultural preservation. But it’s not just academics: ?? Entrepreneurs can foster fair trade opportunities, and ? Adventurous Learners can embrace life-changing experiences and share them within their networks.
