When I had the #idea for my first #company, my father asked me “If this was such a great #idea, why did someone else not think of it?” Although he may have meant the question to stimulate conversation - it caused me significant #selfdoubt that if it had been a great idea - someone #smarter than me would have come up with it. Instead, my #mother gave me her #nursing #retirement to start HireNurses.com in 2013. We exited it in 2018. When we launched the first formal #NurseInnovation program at #NEU in 2016, we were told: “Nurses can’t #innovate, this is just a #fad. Nurses need to follow policy and procedure”. We had no idea if we could change the national narrative. By 2017, #NurseInnovation was that top #SEO google term re: #nursing. In 2017, Johnson & Johnson pivoted their 20 year campaign of #thankingnurses to #NurseLedInnovation and the #ANA adopted #innovation into their mission. We founded #SONSIEL in 2019 to advance nurse led innovation as it’s single focus. When we launched Commission for Nurse Reimbursement in 2023 - we were told it was going to be impossible to change a 100 year reimbursement policy that places nurses as costs to healthcare systems…the only degreed healthcare profession who cannot bill for their services. And today, this topic is echoing across nursing and beyond as the key factor to end the #NursingCrisis. When we launched #NursingIsSTEM a few months back - we heard “nursing is a soft science - nurses only follow doctors orders” …and yet we had over 1000 organizations and individuals sign onto the letter we submitted to #DHS and now a formal #legislative movement has started to reclassify nursing as a #STEM. It’s never easy to start something new or to challenge the #StatusQuo. So when my colleague and friend Sharon Pearce shared this inspirational post by #TheodoreRoosevelt - I wanted to amplify and expand on it. Change is never easy - but if what you are doing is truly set on creating a better world - keep going!!! #NursesOnLinkedIn #HealthcareOnLinkedIn

Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL I have read this so many times over the last five years and it’s a favorite of Brene Brown. It is the truth sayers who are in the arena and the sideliners and people who live in fear are the spectators. If life was as believed by some to be a simulation spectators and brave soldiers are necessary. Mostly I feel sad for little children being brought up to be fearful of living because their parents are. Especially young girls and women. Women have been forced for far too long to be spectators. I am so proud of the work you have done and continue to do. You are an inspiration to many of us just starting a new journey and trying to understand where we want to go.

Jimmy Carter presented this Roosevelt quote as a framed print to Hal Suit, who had run against him for Georgia's Governor.?Hal was a Republican new anchor at WSB in Atlanta and well-known across the state AND he was a war hero, having lost a leg in Korea.?He was pretty bitter from his loss and did not go to the Governor's Mansion to give respect to Governor Carter.?So Jimmy Carter went to Hal Suit's office on Peachtree in Atlanta and presented it to him.?That act led to Hal and Jimmy?becoming lifelong friends, not enduring enemies. Later, I would become friends with Ted Roosevelt IV, the great grandson of Theodore.?He was at Lehman Brothers, which was acquired (after its collapse) by Barclays.?A former Seal and Vietnam Vet, he is a world leader in environmental protection and conservation.??President Roosevelt obviously provided a great gene pool.?

I have this framed on my desk as a constant reminder ?? the naysayers are not the ones doing the “thing”- it’s easy to criticize what you don’t understand nor do - it’s just white noise ?? keep going! Follow your intuition ????

This is such an important post as it speaks to the journey Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL

Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL you are on fire ??. I love the passion and the pursuit. Its the same narrative across nursing in other parts of the world from Nursing school. I remember in college there were fleas in the trailers that the classes were held, when we reported the issue to the college we were told that nursing was a non-income generating entity hence they cannot do anything about it. Its almost 20 years ago and I remember like it was yesterday. All 120 nurses in the institution went on a strike by standing outside in the sun all day until we were provided different rooms and the issue was handled. We have been taught to stand up for ourselves as a profession from early on and we have to stand together. Thank you for taking this seriousissue of nurse reimbursement on, most nurses do not understand the business of healthcare and the cause and effect behind the scene, and could not even attempt to advocate for themselves so thank you for taking this on.??

This is exactly the kind of fire we need in nursing! Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL , your story is a powerful reminder that the greatest innovations often face initial resistance. Just look at the impact of #NurseInnovation and the growing recognition of #NursingIsSTEM! We can't let doubt hold us back. Together, we can keep pushing for a future where nurses are valued for their full potential as scientific minds and leaders in healthcare.
