Momentum is building for psychedelic therapies to support our troops and veterans, as highlighted in this recent Roll Call article.? ? “The way people describe psychedelics is unlike the way they talk about any other therapy,” said Reason for Hope’s Executive Director Brett Waters. ? ? “They say it was life changing, or one of the most meaningful things to ever happen to them. And as more legislators are hearing those stories from veterans and others it’s having an incredibly compelling effect.” Read more at the link in the comments. #psychedelictherapy

After being medically discharged from Defence, and mostly in the quiet, I endured years of debilitating symptoms, including chronic pain and PTSD. I was prescribed a cocktail of medications that left me isolated and struggling, leading to multiple overdose attempts. The impacts mentioned in the video are not unique to the US, Australia's elite Special Boat Teams are subject to similar repetative shock exposures. A 2005 report by DSTO showed Australian fast boat crews were exposed to repetitive impact shocks from 4 to 13G of pressure. In 2021, after years of chronic head pain, behavioural challenges, and repeated misdiagnoses, I finally found a doctor to conduct specialised brain scans. Neurofeedback revealed significant Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) caused by repeated head traumas and compounded by prolonged high-dose polypharmacy. This diagnosis was a turning point, giving me a second chance at life and enabling me to seek out medical specialists who addressed the root cause of my condition instead of just managing the symptoms. Since then, I’ve embraced holistic rehabilitation, including physical therapy, balanced endocannabinoid medicines, ketamine infusion therapy, nutrition, meditation, and other innovative approaches. Today, I’m back at part-time work and collaborating with medical professionals, veterans, and volunteers to raise awareness and improve access to services for TBI and related conditions. If you’d like to learn more or think you might have experienced TBI during your service, please don’t hesitate to reach out. https://lnkd.in/gUb7t69H

???? Honoring Our Veterans on Veterans Day ???? Today, we celebrate the bravery of our veterans and recognize the unique challenges many face, including vestibular disorders. While these conditions can affect anyone, military personnel are at greater risk due to factors like traumatic brain injuries and neurotoxic vestibulopathy from certain antimalarials. ?? Diagnosis Journey: The path to diagnosis often starts with a primary care physician (PCP), but not all PCPs are trained to recognize vestibular disorders. ?? Educate Yourself: Familiarizing yourself with symptoms—such as dizziness, balance issues, and nausea—can help you communicate effectively with your healthcare provider. Let’s honor our veterans by raising awareness about their health challenges and ensuring they receive the support they deserve. ???? Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a serious condition that can occur when the head is hit with significant force or moved rapidly, often caused by car accidents, falls, sports injuries, or nearby explosions during military service. Whether mild or severe, TBIs can impact many aspects of life, including physical abilities, cognitive functions, and behaviors. Symptoms of TBI may include headaches, blurry vision, trouble hearing, difficulty concentrating, memory loss, and increased sensitivity to light or noise. For Veterans, TBIs can often go unnoticed, yet they may lead to significant challenges like depression, anxiety, and sleeping difficulties. At My Veteran Passion (MVP), we recognize the importance of understanding and addressing TBI to support recovery and improve quality of life. It’s fascinating to consider that Single Pulse Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (sTMS) could help mitigate the effects of cortical spreading depression (CSD) by interrupting the abnormal electrical activity linked to migraine aura.???? By modulating neuronal excitability and stabilizing hyperactive neurons, sTMS may prevent the cascade of CSD-related events, calming neural hyperactivity and reducing aura symptoms and headache severity. With its drug-free approach, sTMS is a groundbreaking central neuromodulatory solution for migraine tied to CSD. Check out our website to learn more about SAVI Dual Migraine Therapy, the first and only portable, patient-controlled sTMS device available by prescription. #TMS #migrainerelief #veterans #neuromodulation #PainRelief #Technology https://zurl.co/LSsyW

Every day 452 Canadians suffer a serious brain injury. This amounts to nearly one person every three minutes, equaling almost 165,000 serious brain injuries per year. This does not include concussions, military injuries, or unreported cases. There are close to half a million Ontarians living with acquired brain injury (ABI) which does not include the 155,000 concussions that occur each year in Ontario. Join OSOT in raising awareness and knowledge about those affected by brain injuries. #braininjuryawarenessmonth #ocupationaltherapist
