Our goal is $50K this year! We are working hard to make this happen! Myths vs Facts about Child Sexual Abuse. ?Myth: Child sexual abuse is a rare experience. ? Fact: Child sexual abuse is not rare. Retrospective research indicates that as many as 1 out of 4 girls?and 1 out of 6 boys will experience some form of sexual abuse before the age of 18.1 However, because child sexual abuse is by its very nature secretive, many of these cases are never reported. ?Myth: A child is most likely to be sexually abused by a stranger. ? Fact: Children are most often sexually abused by someone they know and trust. Approximately three quarters of reported cases of child sexual abuse are committed by family members or other individuals who are considered part of the victim’s “circle of trust.”2 ?Myth: Children who are sexually abused will never recover. ?Fact: Many children are quite resilient, and with a combination of effective counseling and support from their parents or caregivers, children can and do recover from such experiences. As a Charity Auctioneer why do I bring a tablet bigger than my head to fundraising events? ?? One of my top priorities is ensuring guests are excited and ready to bid! ?? That’s why I always bring my trusty tablet ?? to every event. It’s a fantastic tool to show guests the auction items in advance. I make sure to arrive as soon as the guests do ?. Why? Because it’s crucial to meet and connect with them before the live auction kicks off! By using my tablet to walk them through the lots—complete with images and details—I can build anticipation and get them thinking about their favorite items long before they raise their paddles ???. This personal touch goes a long way. Guests feel more engaged, and when the live auction begins, they’re already excited about the items they’ve seen up close. Whether it’s a dream holiday ??? or a one-of-a-kind experience ??, getting them emotionally invested early is key to creating that bidding buzz. My approach is always to get in there, meet the guests, and use a tablet to show off the lots in advance. One of the most important moments in a charity auction is right at the very start! ?? As an auctioneer, my top priority is to get everyone’s attention before the bidding begins, especially in long rooms where guests can easily be distracted by conversations or the distance from the stage. ?? Sometimes, you’ve got to get creative to make sure everyone’s focused. I’m not afraid to do whatever it takes to grab attention—even if it means standing on a chair in the middle of the room with a wireless mic! Why? Because once you have the whole room engaged, you set the tone for the auction and keep the energy high throughout. ?? From experience, I know that when everyone is tuned in and having fun from the get-go, the bids start rolling in and the funds for the cause skyrocket! ?? So, whether it’s by moving into the center of the action, or even climbing onto a chair —I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure the crowd is with me! ?? Happy Monday! We are excited to invite each of you to our annual silent auction on Sunday December 8th, at Jax Café in Minneapolis at 4 PM. The Silent Auction is our primary fundraiser where we will raise money for this year’s non-profit connection and for our travels to Kenya this January. We are excited to announce our new non-profit connection for 2024-25: Alfajiri Street Kids Art. Alfajiri Street Kids Art is a registered community-based organization in Nairobi, Kenya founded and directed by Lenore Boyd, an artist and volunteer. We will be partnering with Alfajiri to support their mission of providing street children with an opportunity for artistic expression such as painting, drawing, dance, martial arts, and music. However, Alfajiri is at risk of closing its doors as sponsorships have declined due to both local and international economic crises. There are also environmental factors that have led to an increase in the need for Alfajiri’s help. While the organization is working to build a sustainable social enterprise to address these challenges, the immediate needs of local children and families must be met. We will be aiding Alfajiri not only with financial support but also by sending four of our students to assist on-site. The travelers will help facilitate art programs and work alongside Lenore Boyd and her team to provide resources and support for the children. Together, we hope to ensure that Alfajiri Street Kids Art continues to offer hope and opportunities to the children it serves, while building a more sustainable future for the organization and the community. As a charity auctioneer, my role goes far beyond just running the live auction ???? Fundraising is a team effort, and I believe it's crucial for the auctioneer to get involved in every aspect of the event—from selling raffle tickets ??? to hyping up the silent auction ???. Why? Because every penny counts ??, and it's our job to create an atmosphere of generosity that flows through every part of the evening. If I can help squeeze a few more bids on the silent auction or encourage someone to buy just one more raffle ticket, that extra effort can make all the difference in hitting the charity's fundraising goals. I’m also a firm believer that the fundraising doesn’t stop when the live auction ends! I keep going right up until the moment I leave the venue ??. Whether it's pushing that final donation or reminding people of the good cause on their way out the door, it’s all about maximising the impact of the event. I even managed to sell a TukTuk to the 360 Video guys who took this video, just before I was about to leave. Being a charity auctioneer isn’t just about selling items. It’s about driving a mission.
