????Is anyone else obsessed with the bald eagles, Jackie and Shadow, in Big Bear, California and their three eggs that could hatch ANY DAY??? It’s brilliant marketing by Friends of Big Bear Valley to place this camera in an ideal spot to share these two beautiful creatures with us, and to create a community around a moment.
And I’ve learned a few things from Jackie and Shadow, which I’m taking to heart:
? RECOVER QUICKLY: As the Friends of Big Bear pointed out after a particularly scary moment, Jackie and Shadow go through pretty disadvantageous moments of crisis, and they get right back down to business. Their recovery - and recovery time - is admirable.
? FOCUS: These two are unwavering in their commitment to one another and to the eggs. Rain, wind, snow, predators, traffic sounds. I don’t even think the latest Pookie meme would distract these two. Their focus is aspirational.
? TEAM WORK IS DREAM WORK: This is a team. While the division of duties and timing of it all isn’t always clear to me (I think Jackie went 63 hours once waiting on Shadow to bring her back a snack!), it certainly is to them. These two work together in a beautiful and complementary way.
? TELL IT LIKE IT IS: When Jackie and Shadow are together, they have a lot to say to one another. They make their needs and desires known, their pleasures and displeasures. They appear not to leave anything unsaid or to avoid difficult conversations. How cool.
? FIND STILLNESS: These are some busy animals. But there is also a lot of stillness. Of admiring the view. All while doing something important. Unless I am sleeping, I am always doing. Not nearly enough contemplation, admiration, and stillness.? Something to strive for for sure.
