Last year, we lost our season opener 9-1. This year, my U19s started away to the #1 MLS Academy ?????? ???? ?????? ?????????? ???? ??????? I would imagine many would expect a similar result, But that presupposes we stood still. That we are the same as we were a year ago. ?????? ???? ?????? ?? ?????????????????? ?????????? ??????. Not personnel wise. We are different because we have 1 year of development together. Which has made us a completely different team. And a much bigger challenge to any opponent. We gave Philadelphia Union U19s everything they could handle for 90-minutes. ? We broke their high press being brave in the buildup. ? We defended masterfully for almost the entire match. ? We were about equal on chances created.? ? We had more of the ball in the 2nd half. ? And dare I say we were the better team for stretches of the match. ???? ????????, ?????? ???????? ?????? ?????? ????????????? We lost 3-0. 1 great goal. 1 goal off a mistake in our build-up before half. 1 goal on a counter-attack (only time they got behind us). They are the best for a reason. But that misses the bigger picture. On paper, my team was not supposed to be able to compete. But we have to remember the 9-1 that started last season. Prepared us to go toe-to-toe with the very best. ???????? ???? ?????? ?????????? ???? ??????????????????????: If you have a worthwhile vision, And a committed group willing to give everything to it, ?????? ???????? ???????????? ?? ?????????????????? ????????. One that can take on the very best in the country. But we aren’t raising the ?????????????? ???????????????????????? banner… We will double down on what we did well. And we will work to improve where we need to improve. Because next weekend we play another top MLS academy, And that same group that beat us 9-1 a year ago. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch for today’s practice. ?????????? ?????????? We lost a lot of matches last season, But we collected countless small wins. MLS Season Shake-Up: Will America’s Soccer Calendar Mirror Europe? Major League Soccer (MLS) is exploring a potential change to its season format, moving from its current spring-to-fall schedule to a fall-to-spring calendar in line with many European leagues. Currently, the 2024 season runs from February 21, with the regular season ending on October 19 and the MLS Cup scheduled for December 7. Under the proposed format, the season would begin in early August, break in mid-December for winter, resume in February, and wrap up with the MLS Cup in late May. This shift, which could take effect as early as 2026, is being considered to better align MLS with the global football calendar. The proposed calendar could enhance MLS's role in the global transfer market, provide more favorable weather for teams, and reduce scheduling conflicts with other North American sports. The league is also considering other structural changes, such as moving from conferences to divisions and adjusting the timing of tournaments like the Leagues Cup and U.S. Open Cup. However, challenges remain, including harsh winter weather in northern regions and competition with NFL, NBA, and NHL schedules. Edvard Tagseth looks set to join MLS outfit Nashville SC next year - here's why I think it's a shrewd bit of business by the Tennessee club and why Tagseth could thrive in America... Tagseth has become a key player for Rosenborg this season due to Alfred Johansson using him in a midfield three to good effect, encouraging him to be more progressive on and off the ball. When looking at the Top 20 performers in the MLS this season, one thing has stood out at me - their average height. 173.85cm. Compared with 24 other top leagues (European) this is drastically shorter. [181.60cm Italian Serie A, 178.95 English Premier League]. The average height in the MLS (1,000 minutes+) is 180.02cm. That's a difference of 6.17cm between total players and the Top 20. Only the Liga Portugal comes close to that difference (5.29cm) with every other league <5cm difference. Is it because the better players in the MLS just happen to be shorter or do shorter players perform better because of the play style of the MLS? Average PPDA in the MLS is 12.77 with only Cincinnati <10. This is comparable to the Serie A, yet their Top 20 players had the highest average height of 181.60 - [+7.75cm than MLS]. The MLS Top 20 were the only Top 20 to record >50% of total successful actions = attacking actions (average across the other 24 leagues was ~40%), with a clear focus on deep completions, passes into the area, on-the-ball progression and offensive duels. While Tagseth does not 100% fit the above archetype, he is known for carrying the ball forward when he does run with the ball and is becoming more renown for his decisive passing and offensive duels. The probability he becomes a leading player in a league such as the MLS seems quite high especially as for some reason, shorter players tend to do quite well in America!
