IDPLN Presentation Highlight! I2D2's Sharon Zanti presented several sessions that showcased critical insights into advancing equity through data-driven practices. Her presentations highlighted an applied research partnership aimed at strengthening support systems for children’s mental health, as well as adaptive governance strategies that empower data sharing for public health transformation, drawing from work in the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Additionally, findings were shared from Sharon's work on a cohort-based model that incorporates community voice in data linkage and a national survey of 40 state and local systems as part of the Actionable Intelligence for Social Policy (AISP) cross-sector data linkage efforts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration for meaningful impact.? ? "When data are pooled...nuances [within racial and ethnic populations] vanish. 'One group looks better than they really are, the other group looks worse than they really are, and you can’t rely on those estimates anymore,' says Joseph Kaholokula, a physician at the University of Hawai?i at Mānoa. 'It’s nonsense. It’s not good science, yet people have been doing this for decades.'” And the reasons for why data aren't disaggregated more readily, DESPITE decades of advocacy and evidence demonstrating the need to do so, are rooted in systemic racism. It's been an honor to support AAPI Data through a multiyear grant from the Micron Foundation I have learned so much from this partnership while also being reminded of the need for a nuanced understanding of data and communities. "AANHPI Community Data Explorer compiles demographic insights on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. This tool provides valuable resources for journalists, community organizations, governments, and policymakers to make informed decisions and foster inclusive growth of AAPI communities. Use the tool to explore population trends, socioeconomic status, and integration of AAPI communities over time and across the country."
