"Are you aware of the minimum distribution requirements for your Private Ancillary Fund (PAF)?" Each year, a PAF must distribute at least 5% of its net assets to eligible Deductible Gift Recipients (DGRs), or a minimum of $11,000 if 5% of the assets fall below this threshold. However, no distributions are required during the PAF's first year of operation. I committed to reporting back on the impact of local fiscal sponsorship on BDN community fundraising. TL;DR: It mattered, but not to everyone. Insights into for whom it mattered will inform how we adjust in 2025. The Bangor Daily News' year-end community fundraising campaign highlighted how fiscal sponsorship affects different donor groups in different ways. We saw a 28% increase in average giving per donor, a 20%?increase in the number of donors?giving $250 or more, and 8x growth in gifts via charitable accounts. These remarkable shifts were made possible thanks to the fiscal sponsorship and commitment to the mission of local journalism of local economic development organization Eastern Maine Development Corporation, and are helping us zero in on how to refine our approach to individual giving in 2025. #alwaysbelearning #localjournalism #localnews https://lnkd.in/eJMUXRQg

The Future of Fundraising requires: 1. understanding where and how people get information, 2. utilizing multiple channels of communication to increase reach potential, and 3. using AUTHENTIC storytelling to... 4. build a GENUINE community of activated and empowered supporters. This young man has shared info videos on wildlife for years. Recently, he has started using his platform to raise awareness for causes and organizations that do work that resonates with him. Sending sterile appeals and stewardship pieces is not going to cut it in the challenge of growing individual giving. Times have and are continuing to change and we all need to change with it. Donors give because they care, AND because they want to DO something. For the most part, they WANT to be involved. Don't be short sighted. A donor’s gift shouldn't be the end goal, nor should a volunteer's efforts be left at that. Those are possible indications of a person who might like to be invited to be more involved. Extend invitations!
