From Shortlisted to Ghosted: The Sponsorship Saga ?? Recently, I applied for a position and received a positive response from the hiring manager, who expressed interest in setting up an interview, noting that my profile matched the requirements and skillsets needed for the role. The interview went great, and I thought I was on my way to joining their team. During the application process, I was upfront about needing sponsorship in the future, and despite this, I was shortlisted. But then, when they later asked about sponsorship and I confirmed my need for it after 2027, I suddenly found myself in the ghost town of job applications. To hiring managers: Clear communication regarding sponsorship needs from the beginning can save both of us from starring in the next episode of "Ghosted." LinkedIn community, over to you! What are your experiences and suggestions for handling sponsorship discussions during the hiring process? #JobSearch #Hiring #Sponsorship #CareerAdvice #JobSeekers #HiringManagers

If you’re a transitioning service member or military spouse, I highly recommend following Michael Quinn and reading his insights. Even if you’re not a service member there is value in what he is discussing on this platform. Here is what I learned: 1. The hidden job market is found through networking. 2. The more you interact on LinkedIn the more you’ll get noticed. 3. Don’t just apply to any job. Find purpose in who you want to work for and what you want to do. 4. The best careers aren’t always found with big companies. There as some great startups that are also seeking great candidates. 5. Tailor your resume for every position. Don’t use the same master resume every time. Put in 15% effort and expect 15% of the result. 6. Once you get an interview you’ll need to do your homework. Preparation is key ??. However, don’t go for the same generic answers. Stand out. Use that brag folder to your advantage. The hiring team wouldn’t interview you if they weren’t interested in your skills and experience. 7. If you’re part of a 7-10 round interview it is time to bail. You want to work for someone who is decisive and can make sound decisions promptly. Your time is just as important as theirs. 8. Certifications aren’t always the best thing. If you are getting a certification without relevance or purpose then it’s time to reevaluate your education goals and career targets. Narrow down the industry you want to work for. If you’re pivoting careers then look at what is relevant in today’s market. Remember purpose is key. 9. Talk to people. Connect with people in your field or the field you want to transition to. They have a wealth of information. I’ve connected with hundreds of people and messaged them privately on advice and how to navigate a role with a company I want to work for. You’d be surprised how many people want to help you succeed. 10. Don’t burn ?? bridges ?? on LinkedIn. A great piece of advice I’ve received throughout my career was, “Be nice to everyone because you never know who your boss is going to be.” This reigns true on LinkedIn. If you’d like to connect please hit that connect button on LinkedIn. I am always open to connecting and helping people within and outside of my network. Good luck with your job search.
And I certainly wanted it to be an "unfair fight" between me and the hundreds of other people applying online for the same job For me - that came from relationships and referrals #quinnsights There is nothing like having someone on the inside handing your resume to a recruiter or hiring manager to move you to the front of the list In fact - you increase your odds 11x with a referral And I didn't really know anyone when I started my transition It all came from engaging with people here on LinkedIn and at networking events (where I followed up) You?

Kia ora, It’s hard out there job hunting in ICT/professional services. Massive layoffs mean that experienced professionals, new entrants, and graduates are all fighting for the same roles. There are also fewer roles to go around. My tip for today is to follow recruiters in the sector on LinkedIn. They often post new opportunities on their profiles. Spend some time finding recruiters in the space you want to enter and connect with them. Build rapport by engaging with their posts. Before you know it, your feed will be filled with opportunities. Very insightful Additional thoughts As important as technical skills are, non technical are the key considerations during interviews (most organizations have weeklong trainings to get you up to speed so it more of trying to sell yourself) Connect with people who have succeeded or already where you are, they see more opportunities than you do. There is a whole of restriction IP address limits you from seeing Recommendations and referrals work. Cheers
Job Hunting: Episode 4 After passing all the exams and earning the necessary certifications, one might think it would be an easy ride to secure a #job offer, especially with #sponsorship eligibility. However, the reality is often different. The job market is currently tough, and positions that come with #H1B cap-exempt sponsorship are hard to find. During my job #hunt, I sent out hundreds of applications and did more than 10 #interviews before finally getting lucky and landing an #offer. If I could give you any advice about job hunting, it would be these: 1. Get used to rejections: Most of your applications will be ignored or rejected. Get used to it, but don’t give up—keep applying. 2. Quality over quantity: It’s tempting to apply to every opening on #LinkedIn, #Indeed, or #Glassdoor. However, this approach often leads to sending out applications without focusing on their quality. My advice: don’t do that. Whenever you find a job opening, check if the organization is qualified to offer you sponsorship. If they are, proceed. You don’t want to waste time applying and interviewing only to hear, "Sorry, we didn’t know you needed sponsorship, and we cannot provide it." 3. Tailor your applications: Don’t use the same resume for different positions. Each opening comes with a job description (JD), and you should tailor your resume to match that description. You can use #ChatGPT or other AI tools to help you with this. 4. Improve your application and interview skills: After every interview or rejection, reflect on what you could improve. There are plenty of videos on #TikTok and #YouTube offering advice on how to enhance your resume and interview performance—take advantage of them. 5. One-page resume: If you have less than 10 years of work experience, keep your #resume to one page. Be direct—remove any information that doesn’t align with the job description. In a professional resume, no one needs to know if you were the president of the student union or what your hobbies are. Skip the #references and stick to what’s relevant. 6. Don’t be humble: This was one of the major mistakes I made in my early interviews. Due to upbringing or cultural norms, many of us are taught to be humble, so we tend to downplay our abilities. Don’t do that. Speak confidently about yourself and your skills. Let the interviewer know that you’re the best candidate they can find. 7. Don't give up: Sometimes you’ll ace the interview, and the manager or supervisor will give you assurance that everything will go fine—only for a rejection letter to follow. It happens. Once you’ve finished an interview, move on to the next #application. You can send a follow-up message a week or two later, but don’t invest too much hope in any one opportunity. I hope you find the job you're looking for soon. Thank you.

Playing the Job Search Game: A Tennis Match Analogy In the competitive world of job searching, candidates often find themselves in a game that's as strategic and demanding as a tennis match. Here's how I think that draws parallels between the two: The Serve: Starting Your Job Search:?Just as a tennis player starts a point with a serve, a job seeker begins their journey with a strong resume, good Linkedin Profile and a strong network. It's the first opportunity to make an impression, so aim for an ace – a clear, concise, and compelling introduction that showcases your skills and experience. Rallying Back and Forth: The Application Process? The rally in tennis is akin to the application process. You send your resume (the ball) over the net, hoping it lands in the right place. The employer hits it back when they respond with an interview request. This back-and-forth continues as you navigate through multiple rounds of interviews, each one a chance to volley your strengths and return any challenging questions. The Drop Shot: Networking?Sometimes, you need to change up your strategy. In tennis, a well-placed drop shot can catch your opponent off guard. In job searching, networking can be your drop shot. Reaching out to connections, attending industry events, or engaging on professional platforms like LinkedIn can open up opportunities that might not be available through traditional applications. Deuce: The Final Stages? As you approach the job offer, you're at deuce. It's a critical moment where any player can take the advantage. Negotiating your salary and benefits is like fighting for the next point. Be prepared, know your worth, and be ready to make your case convincingly. Game, Set, Match: Landing the Job?When you finally receive that job offer, it's akin to winning the match. It's a moment of triumph, the result of hard work, perseverance, and strategy. But remember, just as in tennis, the game isn't over. It's just the beginning of a new set in your career. Conclusion: Continuous Improvement-?In both tennis and job searching, continuous improvement is key. Learn from each application, each interview, and each interaction. Refine your skills, build your experience, and stay ready for the next match. Because in both arenas, the only way to win is to keep playing. #tennis #olympics #jobsearch #hiring #growingvensure #brandbrigade #solvoglobal #whereswalter #wearehiring Philip Urso Gus Perez Alexis Sabet Roger Federer Rafael Nadal William Kane Jason Olson Christian Chain Maria Parodi Johan Kriek Adam Dylan Mernit Trent Feist, CBPA, CBPL ??David L.
