It’s on. The Eddie will go! The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational is one of the rarest and most prestigious events in the world of sports. Since its inception in 1984, it has been held only 11 times. This exclusivity is due to the event's strict requirement: it only runs when wave face heights consistently reach 40 feet or more, ensuring the most thrilling and challenging conditions for the world's top surfers. This year, organizers have confirmed that weather conditions are favorable, gifting us the holiday spectacle of massive big wave surfing from Hawaii. ??????♀????? The Hawaii Department of Transportation estimates that 40,000 to 50,000 spectators from around the globe will pack into Waimea Bay, which opens at 4 a.m. To accommodate the crowd, several measures have been put in place: - Parking Restrictions: No parking on either side of Kamehameha Highway from ‘Ili‘ohu Place to the Mission of Saints Peter & Paul Church starting tonight at 10 p.m. through the duration of the event. - Enforcement: Honolulu Police officers will patrol the area to enforce these restrictions. Vehicles parked in restricted zones will be cited and possibly towed. - Alternative Parking: Waimea Valley will open at 4 a.m. and offer parking for a fee, but spaces are expected to fill up quickly. Carpooling or using TheBus, which will run a special shuttle service from Weed Circle in Haleiwa to Waimea Bay, is highly recommended. - Safety and Traffic: With heavy traffic and delays anticipated, motorists are advised to be patient and drive safely. While I am a die hard LA Sparks fan ??, I have upmost appreciation for A’ja Wilson as an amazing person and absolute beast of a basketball player! Two takeaways from this clip is authentic leadership and surround yourself with people who support you being your best. She exemplifies authentic leadership. You are always going to receive A’ja in all of her glory. The wide range of emotions that she exudes on and off the court with her team are refreshingly authentic. She has high expectations for herself and her team as her team tries for their third WNBA title. As leader you know that you can’t do it all alone and there is a moment in which she appreciation for her teammates holding her accountable. The vulnerability as a leader to acknowledge your humanity and state I have bad days too is remarkable insight into psychological safety. As a leader, I have created an environment where I can let you know I am not at my best and I am open to receive feedback when I am not giving my best is a blessing.
