It's a reminder that even in the darkest of times, the human spirit can shine through. In the midst of this chaos, with everyone trying to help in any way they can, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to even begin. We see a surge of information, a flurry of activity, and a multitude of voices all asking for attention. It's in moments like these that we need to take a deep breath, find our center, and focus on making our actions count. It's incredibly important to stay informed and rely on official sources for accurate information and guidance. Sharing verified updates from trusted organizations and government agencies helps prevent the spread of misinformation, ensuring that everyone is working with the same set of facts. In response to the wildfires, California has mobilized significant resources to support affected communities. Over 16,000 personnel, including firefighters and National Guard members, have been deployed, along with a vast amount of firefighting equipment. The state has also taken steps to streamline rebuilding efforts, provide temporary housing, and protect residents from price gouging. For many families in Altadena, the wildfires didn’t just take homes—they jeopardized lifetimes of hard-earned equity and security. Over the past week, my heart has been heavy for the people of Los Angeles as they navigate the devastation caused by the wildfires. I’ve been thinking a lot about families in places like Altadena—a historically significant enclave for the Black middle class—where homeownership has been a cornerstone of generational wealth. For these families, the path to recovery is steep. Many are grappling with insufficient insurance coverage and limited cash reserves, making the rebuilding process uncertain and overwhelming. The differences couldn’t be clearer: families in Altadena are facing serious, layered struggles. Black families are disproportionately being denied direct cash support, and misinformation about their needs is making it even harder for them to get the help they urgently need. At Stackwell , we believe in treating people with the dignity they deserve. Families need cash for immediate essentials like food and shelter—not second-hand clothing, but the financial support necessary to rebuild their lives.
